Random factoid from the BBC website: Defeat would be Hull's 1,000 away loss in their league history. That's a lot, which one do you think was the worst that you've seen?
Donny away last year was one of my lowest points. Coming from the Premier League to Millwall and then that was just horrendous. Barnsley away in 2006/07 is the worst though. It was absolutely abysmal and convinced me that we were definitely heading back to League One. Never seen such a lack of fight and effort from a City side as that night. Phil Brown must've roasted them because we beat Birmingham in the next game.
Huddersfield Away, Christmas 1980. 0-5 defeat on open terracing at Leeds Road on a miserable day. Closely followed by the 1-5 at Colchester about 5 years ago. At home it was probably Burnley in the premiership.
defeat at york on boxing day 1974 3-0, having to endure the minstermen reliving the whole game when back at school. Others that stick are leeds this season, barnsley 2007 when i'd just flown in from the states and a 4-0 thumping at plymouth in the 80,s
Can't think of many decent matches against Huddersfield tbh, especially not away at the McAlpine/ Galpharm anyway. Losing to teams, that are now in the conference and lower was a low point. Mansfield (that was our promotion season as well & we lost home and away), Oxford, Rushden & Diamonds etc.
I went to that Plymouth game, locked in as well at the end ogf the game. But we still had our sense of humour humming the Hovis tune and even the coppers laughed. One of them actually said i have got to give it to you Northern bastards.Losing to Doncaster in the League Cup when John Kaye was in charge and finally losing 5-0 to Millwall , there again would i have said anything if we won.Scariest palce ever.
best loss ever! felt like a win.. worst (away) losses include the 3-2 at Pompey where we were winning 2-1 with 3 mins to play.. which virtually siganalled the end of our PL stint.. I was worried at the time that because Folan had scored a brace so Dowie (remember him?) would certainly pick him for the next match.. and the rest is history.. THE low point was losing 0-1 at home to Kettering in the FA Cup (2000/1).. a non-league side..
Burnley 2 - 0 City. Tyrone Mears got a penalty for tripping over his own boot laces, Geo has brilliant free kick disallowed for no good reason, then gets sent off for protesting too much. I swear, if I'd met Mike Jones in the car park after that game, I'd have torn him apart, never have I been so pissed off at a match, it still makes me mad now.
Was just going to post that one. Poor Geo it was a great free kick, and how we cheered him as he was escorted off. We played ok that day.
The sending off was for a tackle that was ludicrous to make having already being booked. Rest is true though. Awful ref.
Heaviest defeat I've seen was 7-1 loss at West Ham. Think we equalised too, with a rare Hockaday goal! One of the most miserable away games was losing 1-0 at Doncaster (ironically) when they were bottom of Div4 and on their way to the conference. Think they played a set of teenagers and had not won for months. Cant remember if it was Dolan or Hateley as our manager at the time, but it was very, very grim.
Artistic license. For the purpose of my anti-ref rant, I'm allocating the first yellow as the one that got him sent off.
West Ham 7, City 1... october 1990, after a **** start we were beginning to find some form. I thought it would be a nice time for a rare trip to the Boleyn. Iain Hesford was arguably one of worse gks and that was his (un)finest hour.
Bloody hell, I remember that one too. Boxing Day, caused a massive argument because I went to a match at 14 years old with a mate instead of doing the festive family thing. Oh how they laughed when I arrived home. My best ever away trip (except Watford and Wembley) came a week later at Oakwell beating Barnsley 4-1.
stood with donny fans that day Adie Mike walked off and remarked he couldnt believe anyone was worse than them
^^ This one I ran to the corner of the away end when the players came off and looked Brownie square in the eye and told him that was the biggest pile of **** I'd ever seen from a Hull City side and that Parkin was too fat to wear the shirt. Seething I was. turned out alright in the end though.
