About 40 years,10,000 fags and many broken relationships separate these two songs by the same artist . I have loved her since the 70s but the first version is sung by a woman who has lived one hell of a life
Was Jonathan King, brilliant at finding musical talent (Genesis among them). But in his personal life he was not so pleasant . I'll leave it to others to read up on that.
Private Lives by the Pretenders 40yrs old ffs when did that happen, Did the Grace Jones version get higher in the charts ? Graces version has more of a sinister impact but Chrissy Hynde's voice just tips it for me , not only that Grace Jones scares the **** out of me ……...
It's got to be a score draw for me. I've got a definite 'thing' for both singers and really like both versions. Chrissie Hynde (...aaaahhhh!) actually prefers the cover... "Like all the other London punks, I wanted to do reggae, and I wrote "Private Life". When I first heard Grace's version I thought 'Now that's how it's supposed to sound!' In fact it was one of the high points of my career - what with Sly and Robbie being the masters, and Grace Jones with her scorching delivery. Someone told me it was Chris Blackwell's idea - thanks Chris!"
Bob Dylan V Miley Cyrus V Madeleine Peyroux You're gonna make me lonesome when you go Bob gets my vote as its on my favourite album of his ,Blood on the tracks not a fan of Miley Cyrus but the steel guitar brings something to the track and I included Madeleine Peyroux as I saw her in concert once and have never seen someone so shy on stage but I just love her voice
Golden Brown Stranglers V Dave Brubeck , I think someone has been very clever with the IT on this but I'm sure Dave Greenfield would be honoured
1964 Gloria by Them V Patti Smith 1975 Van the Man gets it from me as I always thought PS was a miserable cow
It's so good that Youtube keep removing the music video so that all other music videos get a chance ...is the version that I'm sticking to, and definitely nothing to do with zombie strippers or skinless hookers
