What chance the Derby being more winnable this year as preparations have been interrupted by the "C" word (no, I don't mean ****). Might the importance of a run be greater than in other years?

12-1 if there are only 12 runners may not be too shabby!

That's it for me until the lucky last at HQ, I'm on serial loser Wentworth Falls, hoping he can find first place - 3 years after his last win :)

As expected by many it was simply a case of point and shoot with Ghaiyyath. He is clearly hard to run down on his day.

Stradivarius was feeling the pace from a long way out and never looked like hauling the leader in. He has run a satisfactory trial for the Gold Cup and I suspect his odds will shorten for that race. Anthony Van Dyck has run arguably his best race since winning the Derby and looks like he might win something this season. Broome looked to be going equally as well as his stablemate at one stage but could not summon the pace to get involved. Not a bad run after his absence and he may do better when he gets a stiffer test and slightly lesser company. Defoe was the big disappointment and it seemed suicidal taking the Fav on at the head of affairs, he paid for it later in the race and was bitterly disappointing. I just don't think he is genuinely Group 1 class and he was a clear lay-of-the-day for me today.

There are wireless Earbuds in under that hood and a voice is saying "They're behind you!!" all the way round. Thankfully for his backers the message never changed.

ive won with skymax last season at newbury, and hes feared, but this may well go to an improver, and EDINBURGH CASTLE has a highly progressive profile, stable form is excellent at present, and he has won after break before,so he ticks many boxes in this.big chance.

There must be a strong chance that this year’s Derby winner will have a prep-race at Royal Ascot. Or perhaps we will see one of those very rare events – a seasonal debut winner.

I thought English King looked good in winning (he could do little else) but I could not say that I thought that it looked a good heat on paper before it was run; and then the way it was did not suggest we were seeing a Derby winner. That said he deserves his chance in the Blue Riband.

Royal Ascot is going to be hilarious this year. No hats, no frocks, the ITV crew will just have to talk about the horseracing between races.

Clearly with no crowd at Newmarket, the jockeys decided not to bother bringing their brains with them. They gifted Ghaiyyath a soft lead and he never came back. I can perhaps forgive Frankie because Stradivarius was there for a Gold Cup pipe-opener over a trip-too-short but what was that numpty doing on Anthony van Dyck giving the winner a ten length start coming out of The Dip?

AVD looks like a solid stayer over 1m4 as he finished off the Derby well and today. Surely the team must know this at home so why not make it a test and put it right up to the jolly?
Albeit i know nothing about top class race riding but it just seems obvious.

I think that 2:25.89 was a track record by Ghayyaith today, combination of very fast ground and tail wind.

Best i can see was 2:26.07 by Mohedian Lady in a fillies listed race in 2011.

That was never going to suit Stradivarius, a typical Coronation at Epsom would be about 8+ seconds longer. Workforce has the clear track record at Epsom and even that is about 5.5 seconds slower than today.

Taking debut from Ricetta. She travelled best early and then looked as if she might be in trouble briefly but she came through again to win with something in hand. By Camelot you would think the step up to a mile and beyond will suit. Good start to her career and the Gosden stable are in good nick. Hopefully that bodes well for Waldkonig and Palace Pier tomorrow.

Stradivarius was 5/2 in place for the Gold Cup a month ago. I am not sure I would be taking the 4/6 William Hill are offering at the moment. They may as well just say that they don't want to take bets on him. Coral are best now at 5/4 for the Royal Ascot race.
