Spain made it mandatory before releasing the pack into the wild.
Might help explain why they are having days that are free of covid deaths.

I think that the books underlined my impression of Maya as being a thoroughly decent and modest bloke. As an insight in to football, it was pretty much standard but I certainly got the impression that there are earlier books that he has written for a Japanese audience which are probably more insightful about the football. I found the account of his development in Japan the most interesting element of the book because it was the one part where a lot of what he says is quite unfamiliar. In my opinion there is something almost Corinthian about his attitude. Got to say that I am saddened that he doesn't appear to have a future at the club and now knowing how committed he was to develop his physique in order to play, I only have more respect for him.

there is, but isn’t this conflicting? Shouldn’t they need to have that extra protection?

Think masks are more to prevent the wearer spreading it rather than catching it, though I'm happy to be corrected on that. Guess they're assuming that those who are vulnerable are unlikely to be asymptomatic should they be carrying it.

I guess it depends on the person too, although I suspect that would largely be the case there would be exceptions - I'd struggle (asthmatic smoker) with a mask on for a long period and I'm not considered at any increased risk. Not that I have need for public transport but just an example.

I’m not too sure either. Just watched the news and heard that and my first reaction was that I though they’d need it... a doctor or virus expert I’m not.

I seem to remember very early doors (Talking Feb/March) that they didn't think masks were particularly effective in terms of stopping people catching the virus, mainly because most people don't know how to use them correctly.

Masks are to catch the particles and droplets from the wearer. They do have to worn correctly to be of any use. I see many people with them over their mouth and not their nose. The nose is where the virus takes hold. Might as well not wear them without the nose covered. I take a wide berth from anyone not wearing a mask.

Masks don’t protect the wearer. The argument is that they might protect others from the wearer, if the wearer is a carrier. But there is scant evidence for this.

In my experience working in public transport all through lockdown, it’s the people with masks on who are most likely to ignore social distancing , presumably because the placebo effect makes them think they are protected.

Compulsory wearing of masks on public transport is a pointless cosmetic exercise imo, but not quite as pointless as the non existent track and trace system, that might be ready in September.

It's a distraction (look out for more in future as the Gov squirm). It will do little harm or good as far as I can see or such research available suggests.

There is, as always, a danger people think correlation is causation. Especially if it fits their world view or agenda. Whole industries (homeopathy anyone) have been built on this.

My personal experience is similar to Archers. Many mask wearers assume it's a magic forcefield. Watch a group or queue with some wearing masks, count how often they touch/adjust/fiddle with it. My favorite is pulling it down to have a fag or eat a pasty. I'm also pretty sure few clean, wash, disinfect or disposes of their mask in an approved manner.

The bottom line is that handwashing, distancing and not being a Cummings is still the key to protecting you, yours and strangers.Track and trace would be nice but the only people to see our attempts at this as a success are those who make money from it. It needs people to run it, not a bloody useless app. This government have confused the message and lost credibility. It gives the impression they are doing something and retain control. Ho hum.

Fact: The day before last UK had more coronavirus deaths than the all of the EU members put together. This was reported correctly on Newsnight.

Last night on question time the government minister on the panel demanded that the BBC apologise and withdraw this statement.

No wonder one of the Civil Servants described this Tory Government as Truth Twisters.

I'm trying to find more info on if/how the environmental health officers are being used. Strikes me they should have been running TTI from the early days but don't think the facilities for testing were up to it.
I have the same misgivings about the lack of a comprehensive system for test strategy here in the Netherlands. We're staying away from busy places and crowds. This the official line for vulnerable old farts like me "Take extra care. It is a good idea to stay at home as much as possible for now." I do that, occasion shopping for essentials and bike trips to the beach or countryside for picnics our outings.

A story being covered by an English speaking radio station in Spain.

    “The story of Alberto.
The man who went to spend a few days with his mother who unfortunately died of the virus.
He was ordered to spend 14 days in quarantine, and was tested,.
Six days later they went to his house to tell him it was positive...He wasnt there...He had got on a plane from Madrid to Lanzarote.......
He has now been told he faces a fine of up to 600,000 euros, for catching a flight while on quarantine,
And if anyone else on the plane develops it....Jail.
More details on show 8-10 am”
