We were down Cornwall for a week last summer, as you know.

Lovely place but certain areas get over run don't they?

I found St Ives oppressive, loads of disgusting fat Brits eating as much chips and drinking as much beer as they possibly could in a small place not designed for that many people. I bet it's great in Spring and Autumn.

Tenby is quite similar, but even there is nowhere near as busy and has more beach and parking space to cope.

I see that the lifting of quarantine restrictions are already in planning before they are even imposed!

I've no intention is setting foot on a plane for quite some time, will holiday in the van and hopefully can cross the channel on ferry as planned. The idea of having to stay in blighty is depressing tbh.

Yep, St Ives is a tourist town along the lines of Newquay (although not quite as tacky) It’s dead in the winter because around 70% of the houses are either 2nd homes or holiday lets.

Shame really because it used to be a proper working fishing town. That said it’s great in the winter, because those mellow summer beaches attract a ton of swell and we get the surf to ourselves.

Have to remember though that the Cornish economy relies on tourists, so as much as some folk down here moan about it, we’d be ****ed without them.

Well yeah, that's the paradox. They can't really complain about what props them up through the winter months but loads still do.

We didn't stay there, just went for the day, made sure where we stayed was quiet.

Can't stand being amongst holidaying Brits to be honest, even though I know by definition I am one myself!

Yeah same. We always try to get off the beaten track when we go away. I couldn't think of anything worse that spending a holiday with loads of other Brits in a tourist destination. Which I why I head to bear and wolf country to get away from them all.

This year is a bit different, but by now Cornwall would be rammed. And generally in the summer I simply avoid the tourist spots and head up onto the moors, secluded wooded valleys and a couple of coves that only the locals know about. Must be the same where you live ?

Yeah I know what you mean there. It's because we're largely a nation of utter ****s.

It's nowhere near as much of a tourist destination but some places do get busy.

There's enough to go round though, easy enough to go somehere quiet.

Most people drive past Gower and carry on to Pembrokeshire.

I was planning on dropping you a pm nearer the time (should have been two weeks ago :( ) anyway for a bit of guidance all round. Espescially as we're only planning on booking 4 of the 8 nights and gonna sort the rest while there.

Yeah gonna book two up Snowdonia way then two down Pembrokeshire-ish way. Rest is all up in the air for now though I think you mentioned somewhere called Harlech(?) which seems worth a visit on the way down.

If you liked Cornwall you'll love the Gower. I've never been to Snowdonia, but it's 100% on my list. It'll be a great round trip that mate.

Yeah, seem to remember you saying this now. I vetoed Aberystwyth! I stand by that too, there's a lot better to go to.

Let me know what you're planning and who you're going with (your son?) and I'll give some tips, I'm pretty familiar with Snowdonia as well.

Between 2009 and 2013 we stay at the Gower Heritage Centre for 5 or 6 days each summer.
We got to see loads of South Wales and it was so peaceful.
The centre shut at 6pm but those renting their cottages had the run of the place (they only had two cottages to rent so it weren't crowded).
The girls could look at the animals, feed the ducks and fishes and play safely without us having to be in the way 24/7.
We picked cockles on the beaches which were well tasty.
The beaches were beautiful, there were excellent woods nearby and loads of local history stuff. Even got to take the girls down a coal mine.
And cos it is not built up the night skies were amazing... could see so many stars.
    We never got bored tbh.
All of us have such fond memories of the place.

    Great place, yes.

Immediately opposite the centre across the road is the walk through woods along the stream (Pennard pill) that leads out to Three Cliffs.

Parc le Breos is the opposite direction, essentially in land, that's where the old mine is.

You can turn off and head up Cefn Bryn from there, which is King Arthur's stone and that. You don't really have to drive anywhere if you stayed there, there's plenty walkable, including a pub just down the road.

The Heritage Centre does a great Cider festival every year, plus other food festivals and such like.

I live four miles from there.

I love the Gower. The welsh are much nicer than the Cornish as well. For me the gower is as picturesque as Cornwall, nicer locals, less twats, beer is better, it’s cheaper and much easier for me to get too.

    Elaborate?

I just find the accent funny. Especially when they’re pissed and having a rant about something. I just end up feeling like I’m in the film twin town when I’m there.
