Do you think that complaining that the last quarter of this season ending under different conditions that the first three-quarters were played is unfair, means that if next season finishes under different conditions than it started will be equally unfair? Say, for argument's sake, Everton play, say Villa, away in the first month of a new season behind closed doors (October?). Then, by June/July, when stadiums are open, maybe partially, Villa travel to Goodison for a vital, relegation six-pointer: surely Villa will have been disadvantaged? Ergo, if this season cannot end under different conditions than it finishes, then neither can next season? Your thoughts?

Ah cool a question that I can actually give an answer to.

    a) Do you think that complaining that the last quarter of this season ending under different conditions than the first three-quarters were played is unfair, means that if next season finishes under different conditions than it started will be equally unfair?

Quite possibly yes. What everyone wants and would accept it the best situation is for things to not change but it's not unlikely at all there will be a second wave and it could be worse than the first. My personal view is that the later in the season it occurs the more unfair it could be but it depends on the fixtures teams have. I'm glad they moved away from the idea of neutral venues as that seems even worse but overall it's less unfair to play the games rather than just awarding PPG as that doesn't reflect the reality of the end of season scramble in any way. It's hard to imagine any crowds at football for some time but the least we can expect is for the football clubs and authorities to go into it with their eyes open. It seems probably that the goal-posts will shift at some point next season too, it's not fair but will again be unavoidable.

    b) Say, for argument's sake, Everton play, say Villa, away in the first month of a new season behind closed doors (October?). Then, by June/July, when stadiums are open, maybe partially, Villa travel to Goodison for a vital, relegation six-pointer: surely Villa will have been disadvantaged?

Agree entirely (You just had to make it Everton didn't you, you scamp!)

    c) Ergo, if this season cannot end under different conditions than it finishes, then neither can next season?

Pretty sure i didn't say it couldn't. My point was that it's not a black and white situation in which one method is fair or protects the integrity of the game (phrases that have been thrown around by opposing sides in the argument in an attempt to legitimise their self-interested stances). The solution that is being implemented is, in my view, the best of a bad situation and what i said from early on was great if they can manage to achieve it (I was not one of your hated null and voiders, though I didn't actually think they would manage to finish the games and am happy to have been incorrect there). That said, some teams are going to be more negatively affected than others and it's disingenuous to suggest otherwise - the Dortmund example seems a particularly harsh one as that's almost certainly just decided the league right there (though it is worth noting Munich were clear favourites anyway).

    d) Tbf, the wall would have realised by now the flaw in its logic. :emoticon-0138-think

There was no flaw in my logic. The flaw you perceive is merely in the logic behind the words to put into my mouth, which you chose because you disagreed with them anyway. I'd suggest that you carry on that disagreement with yourself in as sane a manner as you can muster.

Then they have something in common with Diego's arse then since null and void was null and voided. <doh>

So apparently they're going to use crowd noise from the fifa 2020 game to broadcast during games.

Just when I thought this restart couldn't get any more tragic.

After all these years FIFA isn’t realistic enough to generate a polite ripple of applause for an incredibly simple headed back pass or a crap midfielder blasting over from 40 yards when urged to shoot by all the spastics in the crowd so it’s a no from me.

I did however see a Harold Shipman cardboard cutout made it to an Aussie Rules game which I’m all for even when real crowds resume.
