    Players return for training
    Friday, May 22nd 2020

Bristol City’s players will return to their Failand training base from Monday, May 25th for supervised training.

In line with Government guidance, City have put in place stringent COVID-19 training ground procedures to protect players, staff and their families, while allowing preparations to continue ahead of the potential resumption of the Sky Bet Championship season.

City players will be tested for COVID-19 at the training ground today (Friday, May 22nd) and then, subject to a negative test, return for training from Monday subject to the following measures:

    • Players and staff attending training at Failand will be subject to an ongoing EFL-designated COVID-19 testing programme
    • Players and staff will submit a health questionnaire and temperature reading remotely every morning before being permitted to travel to the training ground
    • Staggered arrival times to ensure social distancing
    • Designated and appropriately distanced parking spaces
    • A maximum of five players will be allowed to train on the same pitch at the same time, leaving the greatest distance as possible between them, which will be at least two metres
    • A one-way system to walk to and from the car park to training pitches
    • All players and staff using an alcohol-based hand sanitiser upon entering and leaving the training ground
    • Players and staff arriving in training kit and washing kit themselves at home each day
    • Any balls and equipment used being disinfected before the next player takes to the training pitch
    • Players and staff bringing their own water bottles and supplement drinks to each session
    • Any injuries assessed without being touched and players sent home for further isolated treatment
    • Players returning to their respective cars immediately after their individual session has completed and head straight home, with no car sharing.
The changing rooms, gym, medical rooms, offices and canteen will continue to remain closed, while an external cleaning team will regularly sanitise toilet facilities.

City’s Head of Performance Andy Rolls said: “The health and well-being of the players, staff and their families is the most important thing. We have spent the last few weeks looking at best practice and taking medical advice for how the players can return to a supervised but safe individual training programme in line with government advice.

“The procedures we put in place will be strictly adhered to under the direction of myself and Sam Morse (Bristol City Facilities Operations Manager) as COVID-19 officers and all players and staff understand how critical this is. The players have been very diligent with their home training programmes and we know they will apply themselves equally well to these adapted training methods.”

City Women, based at SGS College WISE Campus and whose Barclays FA Women’s Super League season was suspended on March 13th and the club’s Academy, whose games programme for the 2019/20 season was terminated by the English Football League and Premier League on May 1st, have had no return to training date set.

All City’s teams greatly value the support they receive from fans but we would respectfully continue to ask that, as per public health guidance, supporters do not shake hands with or ask players and coaches to sign autographs or pose for photographs.

The club will ensure its return to training policies are in line with the EFL's protocols.

I'm still not convinced that a return is such a good thing given the nastiness of this virus. The measures that need to be put in place severely limit the future of the sport because the main ingredient will be missing, and that is the supporters and the money that they bring, and who knows when some semblance of normalcy can return? Good luck to all the players from all teams that are prepared to see out the season and I just hope that no gremlins show up to ruin the limited games left.

In not sure it's the right thing to do either , i assume they know what they are doing but it'll be some time before they are playing again I would have thought keeping fit alone would be better for now

nastiness of this virus … I do not think we can hide from this virus for ever, the human race has developed along the lines of being inter socially involved except for the erjits who put all at risk by only having self centred amoebic brains. Nasty virus ...yes it is quite bad, and there are a lot of fatalities, our hearts go out to all those who suffer. But I do not think it is or has been as bad as it could be, i am not saying our .gov or that of other countries got it wrong SPAIN/ITALY/FRANCE ETC
The other countries didn't have the P***** and F****** we had early on when told to space out in supermarket Q's or packed the beach's and beauty spots. [ funny how we had hot spots in west midlands NE and other areas where the predominace of the perpetrators came from!!!? ] 10 people from Snowdon, NE beach's devon and cornwall beach's [ midlanders M5 / home counties via A303 and lake district that's 60 people …
early days was 1 gives to 3 so that's 180 who give to 540 who give to 1080 [ it is believed you are contagious from day 3 or 4? so in a fortnight likely over 2000 we were in lock down then.
A footballers chance in Bristol is 1 in 978 finding some one, every day odds improve and different tests will benefit us all. so the chances of any players transmitting during games is about the same as City getting auto promo! tested every day for 7 days hopefully tests via the private concern are 24 hours or less should keep all well

‘..... City players will be tested for COVID-19at the training ground today (Friday, May 22nd) and then, subject to a negative test, return for training from Monday subject to the following measures:...’

is it just me that finds it disgusting that the tests are available to footballers ffs whilst severely rationed to the rest of us? - including care home workers, teachers and supermarket staff, who have (or will have) far more contact with members of the public - including vulnerable people.
Much as I love football, it’s only football ffs. It’s NOT more important than life or death regardless of the famous quote.
    The worlds gone mad.
Edit - Adding delivery drivers and parcel processing staff to the list of workers who should be able to get tested ahead of footballers.

If I'd bankrolled the club as SL has then I'd certainly want the season to finish. City are in a decent position, having PNE at home in the last game and Afobe back fit, to make the play offs.

everyone can get it …. companies that process tests are multi layered the ones doing football charge … so apply to them?
they do a contracted amount for the .gov and the football test will not interfere

Playing devils advocate I think the government think resumption of football and the like will be good for our mental health, not sure I agree with it either , but I can see it may help.

what a strange co incidence it would be if those clubs that had the most to lose were the major majority of those reporting C-19!or indeed those DESPERATE NOT TO RESUME AND HAVE SAID SO!

Afobe on the button apparently just think this could be massive for city.

Wells-Afobe-Kasey Palmer that could fire city up.

Palmer has been way out of form the last few times he was given a chance. Will be interesting to see how Johnson deals with having four fit strikers and who gets left out.

    Everyone cannot get a test.

Care providers like Mencap and Mind cannot test all their front line staff because the capacity is not there.

Testing should be needs based rather than base on what industry has the most money.

Footballers are not a necessity to society. Testing key workers should be.

Let's hope it doesn't come down to this one game to cement a playoff place then. We've a dismal record at home to PNE over recent seasons.

We certainly do but at the moment I would still take going into this game with our destiny in our own hands
