Re the Cummings affair - everyone (and I mean everyone) should write to their MP expressing their disgust and disappointment at this whole affair and how it’s basically allowed anyone to ignore any advice given by the government, plus likely to put a greater burden on the NHS going forward.
I’ve done so and I’m pleased (and quite shocked to be honest) to see that my MP, Caroline Nokes, has, basically, said the same in a tweet I read earlier.
We should bombard their in trays and show them how much ill feeling this has caused and it doesn’t matter which way you vote, it’s YOUR MP and they are there to reflect the feeling in their constituency!

I suspect that the Durham constabulary will be in no mood to cover up for the government, and they will make very sure that any and all CCTV footage is scrutinised very carefully, for any sign that Mr Cummings has been in or near County Durham. Still, that's what you get when you accuse the police of being 'economical with the truth'.

In all honesty, I can see Johnson making a big thing about “listening to the public”, sacking Scummings, whilst continuing to let him pull the strings and influence the government’s position, from the shadows of the crypt in which he resides, be it London or Durham.
I am also wondering if all this is a distraction from something else that they don’t want us to know about.

I am, too, very cynical about this. It could easily be a smokescreen and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it’s to cover up something else. It’s what you get when you have a bunch of liars and incompetents in power. IF (and I reckon it’s a big if) Scummings gets the boot, he’ll no doubt be behind the scenes pulling Spaffers strings for as long as he can get away with it.
Come on English voters, do NOT let the bastards get away with it! We are WAY too apathetic! :emoticon-0121-angry

Unless I have missed something substantial, there does not appear to be an opportunity in the near future for any voters to show their opprobrium at the way that the Conservatives have gone about any of this.
Contacting one's own MP, to ensure that they understand our concern for ensuring that the rule of law is upheld, in all cases, will go a long way to raising the issue, but the Conservative majority in parliament is currently unassailable, and all of the time that the carrot of Brexit is still being dangled temptingly in front of voters, Boris will be seen as Messianic.
Today's Downing Street 'Smoke and Mirrors' presentation will be led by the man himself (Boris, not Dominic, although if you look closely, you may be able to discern the strings being pulled), but I wonder how Boris will respond to direct questioning about this issue? I would not be at all surprised if any/all questions will be from Guido Fawkes website, The Mail, The Express, The Telegraph, and any/every other right-leaning media outlet that can be persuaded to ask brown-nosing questions.

As I said, I wrote to Caroline Nokes and have just had this as a reply. Interesting reading!

    “Dear Mr Goodhand

Thank you for updating me about your flight - I shall keep my fingers crossed for a safe return.

When I spoke to my whip privately last night I assumed by this morning the problem might have gone away. But apparently he does not have the decency to do that. I am not sure how the Government thinks it can enforce any sort of lockdown after this debacle.

Of course the real questions of who knew what and when have not even been addressed yet.

    Safe flight.

    Caroline

    Rt Hon Caroline Nokes MP
Member of Parliament for Romsey and Southampton North
    Room 4
    13 Market Place
    Romsey SO51 8NA

I must confess to being impressed. Perhaps I’ve misjudged her and her ethics!

Absolute ****ing disgrace. What a joke our country has become! I’m in South Africa and we’re giving the jokers in charge here complete carte Blanche to do what they want because they’re saying “well, they get away with it in England!”
I am SO ****ing depressed ..... I’m coming home, but to what kind of country? A fascist dictatorship?

Putting that arrogant weasel in front of the nation.

Definitely going to email my local MP for Fleet/Hart, something I've never done before

When all is said and done, the buck stops with Johnson, whatever Cummings may have done. Johnson has to make a decisión and whichever oñe it is, he is damned,

He could show some integrity and sack Scummings, why would he be damned if he did that? Loyalty to a scumbag isn't a positive trait Ides

Don’t forget how closely aligned Johnson and Cummings have been for the last 5 years. Every success Boris has had in that period, from the Brexit referendum to winning the Tory leadership contest, and then the election, has been down to Cummings. He literally is the power behind the throne and is probably irreplaceable. If Cummings goes, Johnson will be a child lost in the wilderness with no one to tell him where to go.
