This throws absolute doubt in what is the truth in the Cummings saga.. Looking like his wife told untruths on this R 4 interview... I remember listening to this interview as I was driving home from work and wondering why Radio 4 was affording so much time to Dominic Cummings' wife. She talks about what a kind man he was and how he came home to look after her before getting sick himself 24 hours later. there is no mention of them driving 250 miles to Durham. In her radio slot Ms Wakefield said: 'Uncertainty is the hallmark of the coronavirus, when you've got it the sense of medieval unknowing only deepens. Is this definitely it? Will it get worse? Will it come back? My version of the virus began with a nasty headache and a grubby feeling of unease. After which I threw up on the bathroom floor. "That's disgusting mum" said my four year old son, handing me a towel with a look of patronising distaste. 'I've never known a bug treat its victims so differently. My friends have reported stabbing sore throats, a loss of taste and smell and a numbness in their fingertips. 'One slight but sad effect of this is that it makes phoning friends to share coronavirus stories particularly unsatisfying. "Weren't the muscle aches awful? Oh you didn't get it. No, no sore throats for me. Oh well." 'That evening as I lay on the sofa a happy thought occurred to me. If this was the virus then my husband who works 16 hour days as a rule, would have to come home. 'I let myself imagine a fortnight in bed with mild symptoms, more fool me. My husband did rush home to look after me, he's an extremely kind man whatever people assume to the contrary. 'But 24 hours later he said "I feel weird" and collapsed. I felt breathless, sometimes achy, but Dom couldn't get out of bed. 'Day in day out for ten days he had a high fever, with spasms that made the muscles lump and twitch in his legs. 'He could breathe but only in a limited shallow way. After a week we reached peak corona uncertainty, day six is a turning point I was told, when you either get better or head for ICU. Was Dom fighting off the bug or was he heading for a ventilator, who knew? 'I sat on his bed staring at his chest trying to count his breaths per minute. The little oxygen reader we'd bought on Amazon indicated he should be in hospital, but his lips weren't blue and he could talk in full sentences. 'Such as "please stop staring at my chest sweet heart". My son in his doctor's uniform administered Ribena.' 'Just as Dom was beginning to feel better it was reported that Boris was heading in the other direction into hospital. I've been a slack Christian during this era of biblical plague, churches are shut, even Catholic churches. 'One of the reasons I converted is that Catholic churches are always open - and now they are closed it feels like someone has turned off the spiritual stopcock. 'But what is there to do for the sick now except pray? I got to my knees for Boris and found to my surprise that my prayers flowed easily. As if carried along in a current of others.'
There have been large scale demonstrations against the handling of the pandemic in Spain and Germany. This followed similar rallies against the French government last week. There does seem to be much dissatisfaction with the response from around the world.
The government is starting to fragment as shown by one of the hard right MP's comments. "We were told Dominic was not involved in Team Boris. We were told he would not be Chief of Staff. We were told he would go after we left the EU on 31 October 2019. But here he is: the man who failed to get us out of the EU on time but did enormous collateral damage along the way. Clinging on as Chief of Staff in a pantomime of his own making, burning Boris’s capital when it is most needed. Seeing to it that the media are sneered at and the police are attacked for doing their duty. To get his way. Enough is enough. I and others saved him once before when he was driving Vote Leave to implosion. Not today. Dominic Cummings must go before he does any more harm to the UK, the Government, the Prime Minister, our institutions or the Conservative Party. Time is up. It is time for Dom to resign so Boris can govern within the conventions and norms which will see us through. It is time to get competing expert advice, decent software and better decisions, end the lockdown and start a long, hard recovery." Part of a much longer article by Steve Baker, the Conservative MP for Wycombe and a former chairman of the European Research Group.
Tory establishment do not like unelected policy steerers being in No 10..... I think he will be lucky to get out of this.....
The herd mentality got him eh.... https://www.itv.com/news/2020-05-24/dominic-cummings-departure-only-matter-of-time-robert-peston/
Another influential MP texts "I think they [No10] will brazen it out, he’s too important to the PM. Without DC who would run the show?" Is this a frank admission that an unelected advisor is running the country rather than Johnson?
Tobias Ellwood MP GOVERNMENT is entering the most complex phase of biggest emergency since WW2. But the ship is being blown off course. Time for a FORMAL ADDRESS from the Captain offering firm leadership, command & control to resolve setbacks, re-unite collective resolve & rebuild mission focus. What on earth does he think Johnson is?
#SteveBaker MP, just admitted to @SophyRidgeSky that the #Brexit bus, 350m per week, and the leaflet about Turkey joining the EU, were both LIES and both designed by #DominicCummings. Many of us have known this for years but there are still people who believe. This is rapidly turning into meltdown day.
Whilst everyone is focussing on the Cummings Saga, this - according to Carole Cadwalladr - is what we are all missing. https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1264141088010493954.html
Well done Boris in repelling attacks from the media and rejected back benchers. Cummings is an excellent strategist and will be needed in the government to combat the nonsense created, mainly by the French, at the end of the year. It is now clear there will be a 'no deal' Brexit exit.
UK Civil Service(@UKCivilService) Arrogant and offensive. Can you imagine having to work with these truth twisters? I have never seen such anger being expressed by people from all sides of the political spectrum, and those who have no political leanings whatsoever. By refusing to answer questions Johnson has ensured that this issue will continue with even more heat. Johnson has now nailed his flag to the mast and now must live with his decision, but there are many people out there who did abide by the rules and are now spitting feathers when they find out that they could have chosen to put their own needs ahead of the population at large. Quite disgracful.
