Though there is a counter-narrative that says they want the lockdown to end ASAP and this is a very simple and powerful way (and very much in Cummings' MO) of encouraging the public to ignore the lockdown in such high numbers that it's effectively over tomorrow when everyone goes out for the Bank Holiday.

    The bloke's a ****, but there's no doubting he's a clever one.

There is parallel universe called Twitter, peopled by those who time has left behind. For them Brexit will never happen, and Cummings is the anti Christ who was the architect of it.

Unfortunately these are the people who shriek about Boris Johnson and his government on a daily basis, so any impact this story might have had has been severely reduced.

Oddly, Laura Kuenssberg is another demon for this sect.

These are strange times we're living in and some people are losing their ****.

You may well be correct in everything you say.

But the litmus test on this one is what tack has the Mail Online taken?

They're gunning for Cummings and as I've said on here before, when the Mail Online go after a Tory then said Tory is facing trouble.

Equally, there's a body of opinion that sees everything through the Brexit prism, so that thus government can be excused anything because it has delivered Brexit. Remainer or Brexiteer, the Government's performance on corvid has been less than optimal.

    They clearly don’t.
Guidance at the time said to stay in as a family if one was symptomatic and if you needed support that couldn’t be provided by people coming to you, which they could have easily had from family & friends in London, then you should contact you’re local authority hub who would arrange other support.
My view of what should happen to him will undoubtedly be influenced by my political views, but he definitely didn’t follow Govt guidance, and there is a case to say he broke the law too, but we’ll never know whether that would have been found to have been the case.
His wife and the Govt lying about it at the time and saying he was staying at home in London suggests they knew he was in the wrong too

Interesting to see an article in the Spectator, the paper his wife writes for, saying he has to go.

What's the story of him / them been seen in Barnard Castle 30 miles from where he was living? He's laid out his story / alibi, so if that is taken as true, a visit to Barnard Castle has to be outside the rules.

You’ve made me read the bloody mail online now! Bastard (and I know you only said this do someone would and you didn’t have to)
They’re warming up anyway, just in case they need to support him being sacked.

“Police have rubbished Downing Street's claim that officers did not speak to Dominic Cummings's family about him allegedly breaking lockdown rules.

Number 10's version of events began to unravel last night...”

At the risk of getting us both admonished and our posts deleted again, I said weeks ago that Steve Baker was the Boris-replacement in waiting. It looks like he thinks now is the time.

It hasn't been great, but I'm not sure whose performance has.

Countries are using different stats, and some are not known for truthfulness or openness.

People point the figure at our government, but what about the population themselves? Every day I see people not observing social distancing, people who don't understand it and people who just don't give a ****. Not sure what the govt could do about that.

Britons are freedom loving people, and unlike many Continental countries we are unaccustomed to total obedience to the state or the paramilitary police. Likewise our police are not routinely armed, and don't fire teargas, watercannons and rubberbullets like some countries in Europe do. In short, we don't fall in to line so readily like some other countries do.We pride ourselves in it, even if it may backfire in moments like these.

I find the whole Cummings story fascinating, how on earth can anyone have confidence in him and the messages that he produces.

I can understand him breaking the rules, people do stupid things.
I can forgive him putting his family first.

It is the cynical abuse of the message that he help produces that I cannot forgive, who the **** does he think he is.

You’re spot on that we don’t, or haven’t in the past, doffed our cap to ‘power’ (even though most accept a class system) purely because someone has power.
Generally though we tend to believe in the rule of law.
George Orwell said it much better than I can (although a while ago to be fair!)

Good chap Steve Baker, he'd make a good replacement for Dominic Cummings himself.

You do remember that Boris bought 2 water cannons for London, so not unthinkable by our PM. Fortunately they were too bog for the streets, and had to be sold off at a loss.
