Just looking at some statistics and I know they are all questionable but ...

In the US the total of every military death since WWII is about same as the total number of deaths in the US caused or attributable to this virus. In the UK there have been about 4-5x more deaths attributable to the virus than all UK military deaths since WWII. That's 75 years of wars compared to 3 months of the virus.

It made me stop and think.

Interesting stats coming from Scandinavian Countries, a few people have been keeping a close eye on these Countries, mainly because of them having very similar demographics. Only Sweden didn't go for a lockdown.
    Deaths per million population.
    Sweden 376
    Denmark 96
    Finland 55
    Norway 44.

But more interesting is the fact that up until the end of April only 7.3% of Stockholm's population had developed Covid 19 antibodies, the thing they were hoping would be a big factor in helping fight the disease with immunity if a second wave comes as expected. They had expected it to be between 20 and 25% by then.

As they had no lockdown whatsoever, it would imply that the strain of virus in Stockholm was not very contagious at all!!

If I recall correctly, the Swedes were advised about social distancing, as it wasn't felt necessary to enforce it. This decision was taken simply because of the Swedish psyche. Compared to most countries, they're very well educated & are more able to receive instruction, consider it, & if they see the logic in it, they'll act in a sensible manner. Bottom line is that they're prolly doing social distancing better than us!

The Swedes really are quite different. I worked there for a few months. I couldn't believe it when 20 or so of us went to the pub. Everyone bought their own drink. Thought I was going to rob them when I explained a 'kitty' to them. Jeez! <doh>

I have been done like a kipper in many 'kitty's" <laugh><laugh>

The worst one was my brother in law's stag night. His Dad was kitty holder (a manc)
He managed to pay for his whole weekend with what he skimmed off the pot.

Would I let a Jock hold the kitty - :emoticon-0127-lipss

Sorry, but that's just not true.

TBF, the latest figures I can get my hands on is 2018. In that year, there were 125 suicides per week, of which 98 per week were under 60. Per week, note. I'll leave you to extrapolate it out, but it's a lot more than the numbers you've put forward.

My favourite kitty story was caused by me.

Big works night out on a Friday night. Got in early enough to get tables together, and before we knew it, the pub got rammed & we were sitting without a drink for too long. I came up with a process, to the approval of the throng. Person A would fight his way to the front of the Q with the kitty. Person B would ferry the drinks over to the table. Person B would then take over from person A, & person C would take over the ferrying from him, as we moved clockwise round the tables. It was working great to start with, as we weren't getting served immediately, but being at the front, often enough to allow us to maintain continuous drinking. Great stuff.

Then it went wrong. We failed to realise that the pub was emptying as people moved on. Sadly, we kept our process going without realising. At chucking out time, we were horrified to find we still had about 6 pints each to get through. Being Scots, we tried to shift them as best we could - the ones we couldn't smuggle out of the pub, that is. Bad news - it's not a good idea to down a pint in one when you've already thrown down at least 10. And definitely not more than 1 down in 1. Result? Carnage. Lots of what Billy Connolly would call pavement pizza. My fault. But at least we didn't go thirsty, which was my only defence.

Oh for the days of the barman ringing the bell for last orders - a cue to get 3 or 4 pints in for the last 30 mins.
I am usually OK until kitty holder decides to mix it up a bit with trays full of shots - you don't have a clue what they are, but down they go and
most of them have smells that linger for days no matter how many times you brush your teeth.
Especially anything containing red bull - horrid, putrid stuff.

I got them off of a random on twitter - must be way out!!

Those 2018 figures are shocking - especially when you break it down by region.
Seems the figures in the old Industrial areas are way higher than everywhere else.

    North East 20.4 %
    Wales 19.1%
    Yorkshire & Humber 19%
    South West 17.7%
    East 17.6%
    North West 17%
    West Midlands 15.7%
    East Midlands 14.8%
    London 13.8%
    South East 13.5%

How many wars do you think we have had since WW2, Had a few limited engagements, but no all out wars as such. Korea was the only large scale battles we were involved in, we didn't do Vietnam.
