Neither have I Rob, and I've no doubt there is genuine concern for its' members who would be exposed to increased risk which we are all otherwise told to avoid. Nevertheless, there is always an alignment of factions on whatever side of the politcal divide you're on when it comes to governance and political issues surface. Attitudes and actions split down the party lines on practically every issue.

It's normally the duty of opposition parties to sieze every opportunity to criticise those in power for political gain - at the moment it's Boris and Co in the frame. The Tories are no different when in opposition and will throw up references to Trotskyism and Marxism at the drop of a hat whenever justified social reform is even mentioned.

I've go no time for politics at a time like this, and any attempt to make it a factor in important decision making is abhorrent.

    Totally agree OS.

To me, the whole thing has been summed up over the last few days with England 'easing' measures whilst the other home nations saying they will only take similar steps when appropriate. Then what happened yesterday? Oh... Scotland and NI announce their own 'easing' from today or tomorrow!!

Talking about trying to make a point!!

That's what I was eluding to. No matter what the situation is, front line military and health care professionals go into their respective professions knowing what the risks are, and do it willingly.

There is no sense in cross border anomalies on this relatively small island. They exist more because of the difference in political dogma in each of the devolved nations and not out of greater "knowledge" of what's best to do. The way forward is an agreed concensus and an united approach toward beating this problem.

Whilst on that subject, the situation is not helped by organisations (right wing/left wing) within each nation which are driving decisions locally. Drakeford, Sturgeon and to some extent Foster are flexing their muscles just because they can.

In fairness, I hadn't considered disadvantaged backgrounds to be honest, that's a very good point. It's really not me being 'hoodwinked' or anything by the left though, you can find interviews with government officials talking about herd immunity openly as far back as March. I'm not even saying it's right or wrong, but there's no doubt this is part of the plan. Getting kids back to school is a great way of achieving it.

You stay safe, you are close to the UK’s hotspot now https://covid.joinzoe.com/data

I personally think people are forgetting the issue here. The deaths and R value are currently declining due to the lock down. Once they start going out again it will rise as the virus has not gone anywhere.

So good Ole Drakeford may not want a Newport relief road but at least he’s still taking the risk of upsetting London to keep us locked in.

I'm not in the slightest worried - I'm sure Drakeford will sort it.

In the meantime, just a few doors away from me, I've got a guy coming down from Newport every day for the past couple of weeks doing up a house he bought just before the outbreak. I've also just seen the boyfriend of the daughter of a couple living right opposite to me arrive for the Bank Holiday weekend. The bastard lives in Leicester and I was half inclined to go across and punch his lights out but then I might catch something............<laugh>

I suppose I could report both of them, but what the hell, I'll just keep my distance an pray to God that they don't infect anyone else around me with their ****ing stupidity.

NO the government is responding to the inevitable … the unions playing politics. By delaying the resumption and playing up the minority the unions can believe they have some power. A lot of schools will be sorting out the new classroom layouts in preparation for when they do restart. all parents and grand parents know the difficulty some times it is to a] get kids to start school ...b] get kids to go back after a holiday …. and get kids to move up a year. The first 2 or 3 years is when kids learn the most … the building blocks of their future, so makes sense to start with them, 2 reasons 1 as just stated and second by accommodating say year 1 then year 2 can be accommodated.. that could easily take 6 classrooms. "before big school" my primary had 6 classrooms for 5 years.... the last before big school had 2 …!
NI,WALES and SCOTLAND chose to wait a further week 10 days because if you look at facts ...the wider picture .. start time/ population/peeeps per sq km and cases you might just see a difference! /differences! because they are all devolved they have certain things they are responsible for … Nicola and the SNP pre covid had built up a massive debt for "nhs Scotland" …. Wales moaned about PPE but they have their own budget and run their own as do NI [ GRANTED IN A PANDEMIC they [ 3 ] will come under the mantle of UK and get funding / help ]. waiting is not an issue it is like catch up.

The advantage they have by doing so is if the SHTF... due to erjits in our partial lifting, they hold firm … takes about 10 days.

been very busy today and shopping is a nightmare went to Tesco at 8 45pm in the Q to pay at 9.30pm and at check out 9.45pm … only about 3 face masks... none on the staff … and the asswipe behind me kept moving about a foot or so behind me with his basket … until I got my spray of disinfectant out " in 5 seconds I am spraying this in a circle around me, it sprays about 5-6 foot or so ..1- 2 [ he said f*ck off you wouldn't dare ] ….-5 .....phsssssst he was just able to move back as I sprayed round from 9 o'clock to 6 o'oclock ….. off to see todays news now wonder whats been happening in the world ….

KEEP SAFE ….KEEP YOUR DISTANCE …. PHSSSSST …...

Cracking post John, you spend the first part of the post Essentially slagging off the teachers and unions for wanting to make sure social distancing and measures to protect students and teachers are in place before they agree return to schools . Then the second part moaning about some guy in a queue that wouldn’t social distance from you and how you had to resort to spraying him in an attempt to make him do so. Maybe the teachers should just be given some of your spray.

It all gets more bizarre by the day

Did anyone see the massive traffic jams and queues in Ipswich just because a McDonalds had re-opened ?
Glad to see that people still have their priorities right <doh>

That's aside from the person from the east Midlands who travelled to Cornwall, slept in their car then went kayaking in the sea, got into trouble, and needed to be rescued by a lifeboat or Coastguard. Should be prosecuted for wasting Emergency Services time.

Teachers, Councils and the Government told everyone forever you can't take children out of school for a week's holiday out of term time.
Threatening letters and fines were sent if you took them away for holiday as it was so 'detrimental to their education'.
Now they're going to be off school for months and told most, with current home schooling, 'will catch up' eventually.

Shouldn't it be the case that when this virus goes away Families should be allowed to take holidays anytime that suits their budget.
It's criminal why costs double and treble during July and August.

Surely it’s going to be difficult enough for the kids to catch up the schooling time lost during the virus without adding to it by losing more time going on holidays in term time ?

I'm not advocating more time off now.
I'm thinking of a time when the virus has finally gone or we have a vaccine.
It's not fair that authorities dish out fines to families for taking a week off in term time, yet somehow children can manage having months off education now.

    On a different tack.
Unless they have a speech impediment I wish Priti Patel and Sky's Beth Rigby's teachers had told them how to pronounce words ending in 'ing'. Drives me nuts.

When the virus has gone or there is a vaccine pupils will have to try to catch up the time lost in schooling during the virus , the last thing they’ll want is to lose even more time to going on holiday in term time .

my daughter has paid out over £2700 to BC council for school fines … I wonder if retrospective "hindsight" will lead to someone starting a case to get their money back! BCC will go bankrupt...

it would be now for this mini generation, 5 to 17 year olds in the next 12 months or so.

My wife has decided now is the time to retire so she won’t be going back.
Scary times - she’ll be at home with me whilst I’m working from home all the time - forever..! <ghost>

When I retired from my last 'proper' job in 2009, I became self employed but working on behalf of solicitors and insurance companies. To a great degree I was working 7/8 hours a day, 5 days a week in my study in front of a computer and at the end of a telephone. Packed that in after a year as it drove be round the bend not being able to have 'banter' with people!! That was the nearest I ever came to depression. Now I do a bit of gardening for others and drive (well, not at the mo!!) a school minibus. Much, much happier.
