Interesting comments about country comparisons. Acknowledging the discrepancies of population densities and the population age etc. lessons of those who acted quickly could have been applied to those that delayed acting and what "lessons could have been learnt" (a much used phrase from our politicians) by the UK to reduce the spread and number of deaths.
Thanks for the link Sb. Pro- or anti- government the overview recommendations are clear, concise and common sense. I agree hindsight does play a part when reading the 19 points but much is about what we all know needed to be done and done more effectively that could have saved lives and put us in a better place to handle the eventual transition from lockdown to opening up society more confidently and with a clear joined up plan.
Don’t watch the silly cow at the best of times, and you cannot convince me that she isn’t scoring political points, it’s all she does, she is in my opinion about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike !!
Boris: We are now testing more than virtually any other country in Europe. Interesting use of words BJ.
Fair point. If we don't want to be misled about the merits of herd immunity, it really is time some people stopped behaving like a herd. Of sheep and actually used their own brains rather than waiting for Bojo the sheepdog to tell them where to go. Or not. He doesn't know. He relies on the science. But it seems there are conflicting whistles. People and employers should decide for themselves. Apparently it's our superior intelligence that differentiates us from other animals. You do have to wonder sometimes. Well actually all the time. My clients have on the whole done precisely what they should. Thought about it as soon as furlough started- used the stoppage as an ideal opportunity to clean the place down, engage with their H&S consultants and union safety reps put markings and lines down on the floor for safe distancing, stagger working times enforce the 2 metre rule in car parks and so on. They started to reopen on a reduced capacity within a couple of weeks without any problems at all. They are not politicians but they have used their brains. I advised on this first over 5 weeks ago with an employer that was ahead of the game and had already done much of what i suggested and a fair few things I hadn't even considered. If Bojo wants some advice or someone to go into the next press briefing with him, I'd be happy to do so. But then I don't suffer fools gladly. Some on here say they have noticed that about me from my previous posts.
Every person who is tested and is positive should get another test at some point to check they are over it. Trouble is they release them back into the community or a care home regardless. I know from personal family experience that this is happening Everybody who gets a result that is inconclusive, a disturbingly high number, should be retested as well as the people they came into contact with, I don't believe that is happening unless that person has the wisdom to demand one.. I know from personal family experience that th e testing of contacts is is not happening. It has all the hallmarks of a Michael Frayn farce.
Antibody study published in Spain, covering 70,000 people. Showed about 5% of adults have had the disease and 3% of kids. 26% of those with antibodies were asymptomatic. https://english.elpais.com/society/...paniards-have-contracted-the-coronavirus.html This is not good news, they have had a lot of deaths, a high death rate per million and it looks like relatively few Spaniards have actually had the virus. Similar results in France. Big variations from place to place but, if herd immunity works, they are a long way from achieving it. To achieve herd immunity would be at the cost of 200-300,000 deaths in Spain, probably 300-400,000 for the UK given our larger population. Interesting that they have been able to do these tests though. We are still in the process of buying them from Roche. Didn’t Hancock say they were going to start rolling out the magic app nationally by the middle of this month? All gone quiet on that. Does is not work? Or have too few of the inhabitants of the Isle of Wight downloaded it to test it properly? A couple of weeks ago I would have downloaded it when asked, but not now.
Modelling by the University of Cambridge's MRC Biostatistics Unit suggests that the rate of new infections in London has fallen to just 24 a day (from 200,000 a day at the peak), whilst in the North-East of England it's currently 4,000 a day. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/coro...owing-researchers/ar-BB146I0H?ocid=spartandhp London wins, open the pubs!
Opinions lol. You say it’s a ****show, but nobody and I mean nobody will know who did it right or who did it wrong till the final tally up, be it in death rates, survival rates, economic loss and gains, mental health issues, suicides, hunger, Homelessness, further illness, a 2nd or even 3rd spike and last but not least if it ever goes away. So until all these factors can be analysed, examined and worked out I repeat nobody will know the true cost. And wether Boris ran a ****show or not.
You’d have to be pretty ****ing deluded to think we’re on course to be one of those who did it right though.
Oh it's a ****show alright. Barclay on QT caught blatantly lieing about tests yet doesnt blink an eyelid. The bullshit just rolls off their tongues naturally! Certain folk dont mind being lied to though
Just find it completely disingenuous this line now that it’s too soon to suggest we might have ****ed it. Blatantly swallowing whatever nonsense is fed to them that helps them maintain a belief they haven’t been completely conned into backing these ****s who have zero interest in their lives.
