Still working my way through series one, enjoying it when I can get to watch it, but a long way to go yet.
It is a really good programme. We finished season 3 last week. The bad thing is, that season only came out in March so probably 12-15 months before season 4!
True Detective - for anyone who hasn't seen it, it's an addictive 'must watch' - I'm just getting into the nitty gritty of Season 1, it's really edge of seat stuff; Matthew McConaughey is brilliant.
Can’t stand basketball, **** game However I’m enjoying the Last Dance documentary about Chicago Bulls
If there was no other sport I'd mebbe watch the odd game, mebbe; that said, the docufilm 'Hoop Dreams' is still the best sporting documentary that I've ever seen. If you haven't seen it, it tells the story of two black, inner city kids on their battles to get into the professional game. It's a riveting watch from start to finish - stick it on your list
The Last Dance is ****ing superb. I enjoy Basketball, but it can get a bit repetitive quickly. Definitely one of those sports that is much better when you're playing it. I was quite good at Basketball though, which is probably why I liked it
Haha, I was the same. I remember being taken to see Space Jam at UCI on St Andrew's Quay and immediately took an interest in the NBA, all because of Michael Jordan and then more so because of that iconic Bulls team - Pippen and Rodman especially were such characters. Basketball was huge in the mid-90s in our little East Riding village - everyone had an NBA jersey and a hoop on the side of their house - parents got so sick of the games in their driveways that they lobbied the local council to raise funding for a basketball court. In the middle of nowhere in East Yorkshire now stands a random Adidas-sponsored community basketball court. I think it was Channel 4 started to do an NBA highlights show too, which lasted into the early 2000s when the likes of Shaq, Kobe Bryant, Reggie Miller and Vince Carter had become the stars of the sport - by that point I was in Secondary School and we got to play basketball during PE and it was one of the few sports I actually got picked early on in team selections for. My friend got married to an American girl back in February and I went out to it and had planned to see my first ever NBA game - storm Ciara saw my flights cancelled though and I got to L.A. 2 and a half days late, on the day the Lakers were playing - I'd hoped we'd manage to still get to our Airbnb and drop bags off to make it to the game though. I was sat on a bus on a freeway in rush hour traffic opposite the Staples Center 1 hour before it started, it then took what Google said was a 10 minute journey an hour to get to our Airbnb, so we missed it! 2020 has been a horrible year! Honestly - if you ever go to L.A. don't rely on public transport, it is dreadful! (awesome city though)
Space Jam was my fave film as a kid, I adored it. Was always more of a fan of Pippen than Jordan as well. I remember watching those highlight shows too, shame that the coverage of the sport moved to Sky so quickly and became virtually non-existent to those without it. I've been to a couple of NBA games, both in Miami for the Heat, back when they had LeBron, Wade and Bosh.
Documentary about an indigenous Australian playing Aussie Rules coming up on Netflix this week, The Australian Dream. Gets decent reviews.
Yeah, I'm not jealous at all... I was gutted, as I don't see anybody beating the Lakers this year, and would have been great to see the LeBron/Davis partnership live. I don't mind ice hockey either - I've been to watch some of the games in Hull a few times. As I missed the basketball game, I looked to see if an NHL game was on during my stay... L.A. to Anaheim (on LA's terrible public transport) is not as close as it looks! Took an extremely expensive and VERY slow Amtrak to Anaheim to see the (Mighty) Ducks! ...the game was cancelled after 12 minutes! 2020 strikes again! I did get to watch the All-Star game in a Buffalo Wild Wings sports bar though which was a good experience - great atmosphere, with everyone in L.A. obviously cheering for the West.
Yep well worth a watch, was produced a year or two ago and is a pretty important story for anyone over here who thinks racism is not still an issue.
Honeyland Brilliant documentary about hatzide a wild bee keeper in macedonia brutal and touching life in the raw
Just finished the full series of Breaking Bad on Netflix and then the follow up film, El Camino. Brilliant throughout. Just started watching Safe. First episode was promising.
