Not sure i can really see Vettel going to any team! His wages will be BIG and he wanted a multi year deal. If teams look at his performance last year then he made quite a few, almost, rookie mistakes. Not having raced in 2020 means they have no idea if his head is in the right space now. Then again any team would get a huge boost in publicity and marketing opportunities.
I think McLaren might be a bit hesitant after their great experience with Alonso.
I don't think Renault would offer enough salary.

I think he will retire, unless he decides just to race for fun and joins Williams for a nominal £1 a year salary :)

Just had a thought, Hass is largely based on the Ferrari so maybe a move there for nominal wages could be a fun thing for him to do? With all his experience he could really help push the Hass team forward. Hopefully he wouldn't have to physically push the Hass too often :)

Well at least this has given us something F1 related to talk about :)

He may fancy McLaren with the Mercedes engine again, assuming there is a space there for him.

Budget wise, McLaren may be keener with the two drivers they have and keep more money for R&D.

Other than that, what options are there for him? Red Bull may take him back, but would he really fancy going up against Max?

All the reports suggest it will be Sainz to Ferrari and Ricciardo to McLaren.

Dunno if this means Vettel to Renault or out the door.

It would be nice for Ricciardo to go to McLaren as he will probably be No1 and if last year is anything to go by the car might be reasonable.
Sainz to Ferrari is OK hopefully he will push CLC.
Vettel to retire seems best plan as I'm not sure any drive would help his reputation.

Sainz wont go anywhere to be a number 2, imo he's the most uder-rated driver in F1.

BBC reporting that 'Carlos Sainz is poised to replace Sebastian Vettel at Ferrari with Daniel Ricciardo set to take the Spaniard's seat at McLaren.' https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/52627900
    Only leaves Renault for Vettel.

    IndyCars?

Depends if he has any desire to carry on racing at all.

I saw him in the legends race, so I don't think it will be sim racing.

Very surprised Carlos would be prepared to play the role of No 2, which is suggested by the article. Danny would not have accepted that but nor do I see him now achieving the ultimate goal of WDC. Shame.

Well Charles was supposed to be a number 2 at the start of last year. Maybe Sainz has decided that if he puts in the performances they’ll have to back him. Should be interesting. I’d be disappointed if he just accepted second fiddle.

Interesting that Danny and McLaren have announced he is driving for them but as yet no official word from Ferrari or Carlos.
Yesterday press were saying McLaren can't announce Riccy until they have released Carlos. So that would suggest Carlos has been released, presumably out of an option McLaren had as he was only supposed to have 2 year contract from 2019. I wonder when Ferrari will announce?
I hope it works out well for both of them.

I do hope Alonso doesn't go back to Renault. I'm not saying he isn't a good driver as he is, it's just he has had his time and Renault need to move on. Not sure if Renault will still be racing in 2021.

All eyes on Renault now then. They're in desperate need of credibility after getting dumped by their marquee signing after only one season.

Potentially the last chance to avoid Vettel leaving the sport, but a lot of rumours that Alonso is interested as well.

It is a weird situation. Contract negotiations happening at usual time in May but not a wheel turned in anger. Especially weird as 2020 chassis will be running in 2021 (with mods for McLaren to fit Merc PU). So if Renault have somehow built a top car Riccy could be kicking himself or maybe an inspired move after seeing how much progress McL made last year? Maybe the move to Renault allowed him a big boost in salary and that has been maintained or bettered by McL?
I don't think Renault have the budget for Alonso (unless he is desperate to get back to F1?) maybe spend some driver budget on car would help?

More talk of team budgets this week. Seems like they are trying to start 2021 with $145m, then 2022 £140m, then $135m in 2023 and it staying there (adjusted for inflation). Now Liberty only need 6 teams to agree!!! but Red Bull have Torro Rosso (or what ever their clothing is called) and Ferrari have Alfa and Hass so 6 maybe difficult!!!!
I am surprised that liberty are not trying to get a concorde agreement signed off. I would say they need it signing so they have a firm base to rebuild income on but then again does that give the teams more power.....

    We need some F1 racing........

    Dammit!

Leclerc and Hamilton at Ferrari would have been an absolute dream! What a battle that would have been. Ah well... The dream is over.

As for Sainz, why oh why would he accept a support role? He's going to have his work cutout trying to beat Leclerc as it is, nevermind team orders getting in the way.

Ferrari's Bottas.... What a bloody insult.

I guess he knows what is in the contract and is either happy with pay packet to play no 2 or he has parity in contract? I think it will be an interesting pairing. From Ferrari's point of view that have probably saved $20mill a year at least and will probably have 2 consistent drivers that can, if they have reasonable car, possibly give them a chance at manufacturers championship? OK so bit of a long shot with Merc so dominant plus Honda PU getting better and better within the Red Bull's great aero!!!! I think Vettel just lost his edge and pushed way too hard and then made mistakes....

Riccy to McL could be great if the new McL is a reasonable upgrade from 2019.

As for Vettel... He has to be done then. There's basically nowhere left that could offer a reasonable drive. Even if Merc let Bottas go, would he really fancy taking Hamilton on? Probably a big nope.

It really is a pity for his career to fizzle out in this way. What happened to the young enthusiastic kid that was taking on everyone? He's but a shadow of that now.

It's a loss for the sport if he walks. I certainly don't see him looking to Indy either. That's a dangerous series to compete in, and given his statement, I don't think he'd have the appetite for that.
