Savic and Kolo Toure are on the bench because Toure hasn't played a game in six months so will be nowhere near match fitness and Lescott is more established than a 20 year old signed from Serbia and only played one season for Partizan, who Mancini is clearly not going to throw in at the deep end. I think it's more that Lescott is the best of an average bunch imo

I'm not too fussed that they don't get mentioned and praised, that only draws interest from other clubs and can unsettle the players. As long as they're doing a sterling job for us on the pitch then I couldn't care a less what others think!

I think Kompany is one of the best around, I wouldn't say no to Lescott but I think his performances are helped by Barry and De Jong plonked right in front of him...

Average? Can't agree here, Kolo Toure is a proven top defender, and I think Lescott is a top defender and much better than people think. Never had a bad game for England. Toure had already found himself benched before his ban. Don't know about the Serbian kid but he's probably a different coco too knowing their current buying policy. Colo/Tayls or Kompany/Lescott? Most would go for the latter but I think we have as good a pairing as most and I'm not sure I'd swap.

I think they're a good pairing, but not up there with the best yet. I also think you can have two centre halves that are similar playing together if they understand each other well. For example, Shawcross and

As good as Taylor and Colo have done so far, I'd put the Stoke lads ahead, as well as Vidic/Ferdinand, Kompany/Lescott, King/Dawson and Jagielka/Distin.

If our two get the game time the above had had, there's no reason they can't surpass a fair few of them, or get very close. But we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves, there are some quality pairings in the league at the moment.

I can think of many centre backs better than Kompany, he's no where near being the best in the country! for one Vidic is better, and imo the best centre back in the world! one defender thats very underrated is Vermailon but he's so injury prone, along with Ledly King
I think Lescott was good but overrated

this. And I agree with Warm Pouch as well. I might take Colo over Lescott atm, but he is still a class above Saylor.

If I could chose 2 CB's in the Prem from two different teams to be a partnership, they would be Kompany and King. The two best individual defenders in the league IMO. Nobody else comes close when they are both on form.

Also re: the original point, Samba is unreal, a proper footballer with a huge physical presence. He deserves a lot of respect for sticking at Blackburn, for me he could be playing for a top 6 side.

So unfortunate. He would have 100 caps for England for sure and would not be playing for Spurs!

Woodgate. Without injury the Leeds partnership of Woody and Rio would've been the first choice England back two for the last decade, and John Terry would be a scummy Carragher-esque afterthought...
