It seemed quite vague and is allowing people to go back to work, in construction and manufacturing, if they wish.

I'm not sure if the firms know tbh.

    1. I don’t have to work (pensioner)
    2. I’ m no longer in blighty.
    Sorry I did say selfish.

So that's why you need to "Stay Alert" then. To spot the bus before the rest and get a head start to elbow your way past the other 49 blokes to make sure you get a seat. <laugh>

If you cant work from home then you should go to work but try and use public transport or a bike or walk.

Followed up by some more bullshit about starting construction again.

So after mass brawls at bus stops all over the country the workers turn up at their workplaces only to find they aren't bloody open anyway. I can actually see this happening. It is that absurd.

As various political commentators are saying, BBC, police, NHS, etc ...

... it's all quite vague and allowing people to make their own choices.

I was hoping for something more decisive.

    I'm not anti-government, it's just a bit frightening.

I definitely don't trust the public but need to trust our leaders ....

I see the police have asked for clarity by Wednesday on exactly what they have to enforce -- so they and the public know the same set of rules. I'm glad to be able to drive somewhere nice to walk ---- but does he mean we can flock to say the Lake District ? More ambiguity

This "plan" is so obscure, the question is why.

So what happens if someone cannot work from home and have been furloughed now cannot get to work safely and the firm that they work for sacks them for not returning. Vague doesn't describe it

Ps among other things that have been stated on here

It's Johnson's job to make decisions. He's decided - that the expendable working class & poor is 'off you go back to work'.

He's also decided that the ownership of COVID 19 will be on us, so the blaming process of the inevitable second peak will lie also with us, because we haven't stayed alert, and by not having controlled the virus.

    The PM is a ****.

You may have missed it but I predicted this yesterday.

The manual labourers need to go back to work while the clever people carry on at home.

But it's your choice, the government aren't forcing you ...

... and if you die we'll enforce the lockdown a bit more.

I've got to be honest, I'm no fan of the man, but I think it's the best I've ever heard Boris speak. He explained what the tough roadmap was, made sure everyone was clear that it was flexible and dependent on a host of factors which he outlined (including personal responsibility). I expect to see the R number and the danger scale of 1-5 become part of the fabric of every day life from now on. In those addresses he can never explain everything so it's natural for them to be a bit vague with further detail to follow, but he should have given a week's grace to carry on exactly how we are so that points could be clarified a bit more ahead of next week.

In general, I'm on board with what he said, but it's naive to think that companies won't start expecting staff back to work from tomorrow and without the means to travel safely into work or still having children off etc. it's still too open to interpretation and I wouldn't be shocked to see companies sack people for failing to return to work.

I’ve been working from home for a while now, but what I want to see is a point where I can go see friends and family, even with restrictions.

It’s not been alluded to as it has no economic impact, but I know folk who are really struggling with the lack of human interaction, I know I’m getting to that point now.

Life isn’t all about work, we work to live. I’m all for doing what we can to prevent spread etc, but if they hadn’t shanked blanket testing we could have a situation when you knew you were clear, and you could visit someone knowing they were all clear.

They’ve got a lot of questions to face once this is all over, and they won’t have the answers.

The strong looking Labour leader will be all over them like seagulls on chips.

If I was a police officer tasked with enforcing these guidelines I'd be putting in a sickie ....

.... 'people can go out as much as they want, travel, exercise, etc, but only go near people they live with or know or work with or blah blah blah'.

Absolutely meaningless from the PM ...

... sorry but he's the MadBob of politics.

Police have asked for clarity by Wednesday as to what to enforce so they and public are working to same rules . It’ll still be a mess.... as shown last week ....
.... someone on Consett Facebook chatterbox asked if they could drive somewhere to dog walk . Loads of individual opinions , some saying definitely yes . As there was no confirmation on the govts website , I asked if anyone could say where the info was . I was directed to the Guardian ( as well as other papers) Also BBC who’s report said that the govt guideline to public was no driving for excercise AND that the govt guideline to police was not to bother people who drove for excercise. ! Then , the National Police Chiefs Council and the College of Policing had on their sites that drive if the walk is longer than the drive , rest stops acceptable and if it’s a long walk you can stop for lunch . I thought that this police version would be the one to follow as it s them who would “catch “ you .
So , having been a model citizen since the start , decided on Friday to adopt the above . Drove 10 minutes to Malton picnic area- walked 1 hour along cycle path - then we stopped to eat ( not a full blown picnic , just a couple of sandwiches and a cup of coffee) with the intention of then walking more . First police car I’ve seen in weeks turns up . ! Told we shouldn’t be hanging around . I explain I’m acting on NPCC and police college info . She didn’t even acknowledge this , just stated that they( Consett police) had been instructed to move people . She accepted that I’d made just a short journey but still don’t know wether she meant it was officially ok or wether she was just being understanding. So after all of the above , the whole issue was still unclear . ( must add , there was no heavy handedness or threat of a fine or anything, she was very understanding ( as I was of her task) and we had a really nice chat )
But as you say , the police are being asked the impossible , and people will take advantage of that

BoJo was going to relax it more than he has but the public and other politicians were horrified so he back tracked. It's why they leak things to get a reaction
