Just back from my big weekly shop in Aldi. I must have missed the announcement that 2m has been downgraded to 2ft to enable every **** to get ready for a barbecue. Previously it was about 10% who weren't abiding by the rules but today it was closer to 80%. It wasn't even that busy since they are still limiting the number allowed in the store.

They said there were marginal benefits but didn't want the public buying masks that the critical workforce needed. I'm truly flattered that they think little old me has more purchasing power than the government/NHS procurement departments. Then again, our household has managed to buy 15 pairs of gloves (yes, pairs not single gloves - I'm not a Michael Jackson tribute act) so perhaps we are better at buying protective equipment...
If you look at their family background it’s very sad. I think they are/were both highly intelligent rather needy attention seekers, who decided that having opinions for money was the way the get the attention. I’m (sort of) sure their opinions are/were sincere (unlike, say, Piers Morgan’s or Jeremy Clarkson’s which are transparently about reinforcing their lucrative personas). I strongly suspect that I would not enjoy spending time socially with any of this quartet. We gravitate towards the people voicing views that tend to back up our own opinions, as you have pointed out yourself. My problem is that I don’t know what my opinion is on this stuff. I suspect we are dealing with it poorly compared to others, but it’s probably too late to do much about that now. I don’t want any more people to die but I also want to go to the pub. I hope the Swedish approach works, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it wouldn’t work here. I have huge respect for professionals in the NHS, but worry that the ‘protect the NHS’ mantra has led to more deaths than necessary, and reinforced this ridiculous ‘beloved’ untouchable status for the organisation. I don’t particularly like or trust Hitchens P but some of his views on this resonate, if not his style of presentation. But I would say the same of whoever the anti Hitchens P representative is. It’s all ****ed up. I don’t really understand the maths. I just thought that a 0.75% mortality rate meant that 0.75% of all those infected die. We don’t know how many people have been infected, though if that assumption is safe it would be a minimum of 2.5m people have had the disease so far, assuming 30k dead (we know it’s more). Anything that proves that dick Ferguson wrong is fine by me.
You can get masks at all of those little sole trader hardware stores round my way - 3 grades, the pathetic surgical masks £1, then a more industrial looking thing £3 and a proper dust mask (for labourers) £4. All single use, but the last one ok for up to 8 hours. I got 3 of the latter for the family when the inevitable diktat happens, one for each member of the family, will be worn, in a mocking postmodern fashion, in shops only and reused. Purely for social acceptance. You can guarantee that there is no new evidence for the change of policy, and none will be published. There is no need for anyone who is healthy to wear a mask, it won’t protect you. If you are ill it could reduce the chances of you infecting someone else, but you shouldn’t be out anyway if you are ill should you? If you are carrying the virus but not ill there is no evidence that you can infect anyone else if you are not coughing, especially if you are properly socially distanced. I’m finding it quite funny seeing people wandering around outside wearing masks, or fiddling with them constantly, or wearing them over the mouth but not the nose, or removing them to talk or take a drink, all increasing their risk of infection. Personal favourite two people wearing masks- while driving in their car. Mask wearers also just about universally the worst at social distancing in my experience, false security I guess.

It is dark, short....and has always been an embarrassment to me. It could not be more less Booris-Trumpe-sque if it tried.
I'll only wear a mask if it's made mandatory. I'm back out running after a short hiatus and give people huge amounts of space, often running in the road and don't want to hamper the oxygen intake. Also, we wipe down all shopping with dettol wipes (probably a pointless exercise but it helps my wife draw a line under inbound items) and wash the fruit. The thought of dealing with masks just seems like a job too far.
Absolutely. I started running (well jogging) at the beginning of the lockdown because the gyms are closed. It’s surprising how addictive it is. And just remember, if Johnson reduces restrictions on Monday, it’s because he has protected the NHS so well that there is space for you in Intensive Care.

I was running a few times a week as lockdown began but my normal 4 mile route took me past the hospital and I stopped because it seemed irresponsible (to me or others). Tried running on the spot in the garden but couldn't get motivated. Now back out on the roads again and feel much better and happier for it. Good on you for starting (post-gym). It is very addictive - I find there's either a decent time to be had or something to learn (mainly excuses of sleep, muscle fatigue or hydration levels but often an overambitious start) which you can't get on a treadmill or in the confines of a small garden.
Yorkie...this is in total confidence...do not tell ANYONE ELSE...promise! It is now very mousey brown, sort of "no colour" without being grey. But the natural medium brown is out of a bottle... and due to some sort of genetic problem that affected my mother and my granddaughter, it has always been really thin and not much of it. So I keep it very short and hope no one notices. Now you promise not to tell ANYONE
