It doesn't have to be literal to make the comparison though. It's said by commentators of all persuasions that the book was a comparison of himself to churchill. It's a reasonable inference. Much like the character of Chris in Platoon was a comparison by Stone of himself.

That's lush mate. Not just that pool but the place. I'd love to stay out there for part of the year if I could. Is it south of France? Provence? That sort of way?

There was a political rally a few years back when Jezza was leader. Some idiots brought in a few Stalin flags and, of course, right wing press made the comparisons.

Jez should have had folk checking the flags and stuff on display, massive rookie error that

Yeah I dont think we've had communist rule have we ?
Johnson likes to think he is like Churchill when he is the opposite.
He has used churchillian rhetoric !
Like I said he is the polar.

I mean, not really! But I think that the period after WW1 leading up to WW2 we did have a large rise in Communist support. Interesting thing is, when the war did breakout I read that the KBG had so many spies in western countries due to the rise of support for communism that they knew of changes and operations almost as and when they happened.

I think the radical left and right were smashed into relative obscurity due to WW2 and the cold war, prior to those two events far right and far left parties were gaining some momentum.

Yes there was quite a few communist supporters back in the 30s.
    A bit of a rise between 1936-39 I once read .
Soon got stamped out once the conflict started .
I believe there was an element of it in the 60s/70s though!

Most interesting and rarely discussed bit of history I read about recently was the Franco-British Union which was literally a proposition bounced between both nations TWICE in 1940 and the 1950s to literally unite both us and France into a singular nation in order to combine our now crumbling empires into a single entity.

Int he proposal by the French prime minister in the 50s Queen Liz would have become queen of France. The proposal in 1940 was supported by a large number of politicians on both sides, the essential idea is that the political capital would have been London, due to it being so safe from invasion, while the financial management would have been conducted in France. Obviously, due to Germany taking over the nation it never happened.

    Interesting though.

<laugh> Just read Desperate stuff from Bori

<laugh> Yeah, that didn’t happen. Stalin flags ffs. Get a grip.

Honestly, the lengths Boris’ fanboys will go to to defend him, as he unravels. We’ve got 5 more ****ing years of this, and it’s only going to get more desperate.

You never knew it because it never happened. Welshie had a strange one last night, maybe @aberdude supplied him with some mushroom tea.

You should have a read back mate, like I just did. Very entertaining stuff; The desperate contortions of the Boris Babes meant I couldn’t just say nothing.

Yeah, but have you got evidence of Johnson saying “I reckon I’m a modern day Churchill yano”?

    Well have you? HAVE YOU?

    No. Haha, gotcha.
