I think that if it was around in jan there would have been a lot more respiratory related deaths and hospital admissions for that period.

So far, I've not heard that there was a spike at that time and non of the experts have really mentioned it either.

I think the combination of Chinese New Year travel and skiing holidays in Italy, Spain and France seem more plausible and we as a country got caught out once people returned to the UK and it was too late by then.

The french doctor in the BBC New Reporter’s tweet put that patients death down as pneumonia. It could be that many deaths were put down as that or the seasonal flu around December/January time as there was no reason to test them for Covid-19

    Could be.

On the skiing angle and I haven't checked, but I wonder what numbers are like in Holland and Belgium, as they have a particular couple of weeks around the new year when they go to skiing resorts en masse from those countries.

Peston the prick , "when can we bring deaths down to the levels of Germany etc"

Response - "when there are no more deaths the number will flatten out, you cant bring them down and I wouldn't wish deaths on other countries"

3rd day in a row not reached 100,000 tests. All the talk of the target, the target get there once (sort of) and now it's dropped off the news.

    Next.

Scientists say they have identified a mutation in coronavirus which they believe means a more contagious strain has been sweeping Europe and the US - and could even reinfect those who already have antibodies.

Researchers at Los Alamos National Laboratory in the US detected 14 mutations in the COVID-19 virus spike proteins, one of which - known as Spike D614G - they said was of "urgent concern".

Their research paper suggests the mutated strain of coronavirus that has become dominant across the world was first indentified in Europe and is different to those which spread early on in the pandemic.

its irrelevant - if there’s only 10 people on the same flight, you are all breathing the same unfiltered air, it’s recycled air!!

10 people or 300 people. No difference!

Ridiculous as I pointed out earlier... IF there are empty hotels all around Heathrow complex, tell passengers wanting to travel to the UK, that they will be held in a room in confinement for 14 days and the food is their bill and not ours... or claim on your medical insurance.... that'll stop the ****ers coming on a. jolly... same with these weekenders ****ing off to Amsterdam and back on Tuesday..

What is open in Amsterdam ??
Surely theres no reason to fly anywhere at the moment or this year I'd have thought .
Not that the Airlines could withstand the rest of the year grounded I might add .

That's what did for all those on the cruise ships, "stay in your cabin" and the virus will be pumped into to room.

We were speaking about this earlier. We went to Fuerteventura mid January. 9 of us. 6 adults all got the exact symptoms come through at the same time (3 kids between 1 and 7 unaffected) 6-7 days after flying out (last day there).

End of January we’d been back a few days and my missus (on the shielding list with a rare and severe type of asthma) got sent home from work struggling to breathe. Inhalers doing nothing and she doesn’t have the normal ones she has these little plastic cans full of powder which are much stronger.

2 days later it’s just getting worse, she goes to the GP as soon as it opens who gives her nebulisers which do nothing so he sends her to the hospital in an ambulance because she needed constant monitoring. She spends all day there on nebs twice per hour, an IV drip and various different steroids all of which do nothing. By 6pm the crash team and intensive care doctors were coming to her bed and monitoring her. 10pm they said if she didn’t improve by 11pm she would be taken into ICU and ventilated because her heart rate was sky high and nothing was working. Luckily her heart rate came down and she was just about managing to breathe, so they said they’d play it by ear. She continued struggling to breathe and having no reaction to any medication for the next 3 or 4 days but did recover, was kept in for a week.

    She was never tested.

I joked at the time we all had coronavirus but particularly after the french reported recently having found positive blood samples taken in Dec 27th I do now wonder.

We did eat at a Chinese restaurant on the second day. I also joked then we’d get coronavirus.

I'd be interested in hearing the answers to your first question. Unfortunately, it feels like a lot of the investigations of the science, right now, are dictated to by an already made conclusion.

Perhaps you might like to explain what you mean at the end of that statement.
