Good Morning. It's Tuesday 5th May, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

The aftermath of last Fridays meeting

As reported yesterday, it has been confirmed that the Premier League's elite are pushing for the season to be concluded with matches being played at neutral venues and for the bottom three clubs to be relegated once the season has been concluded.

This comes in light of last Fridays meeting when clubs situated near the foot of the table were trying to hold the Premier League to ransom.

Clubs including Brighton and West Ham voiced their concerns about having to conclude their fixtures at neutral venues as they felt they would be at a disadvantage. The only way they would agree to the proposal is if the threat of relegation was taken away.

However, the top six are sticking by their guns, and have overwhelming support from the majority of the Premier League, but do they have enough?

They need 14 votes (out of 20) to carry the motion with June 12th being proposed to restart the 2019/20 campaign.

Towards the end, the meeting erupted into chaos with both sides firing insults to and fro. It was also revealed that certain parties within the top six were accusing their counterparts of using their medical staff to stoke fear among players about the health risks of returning to action.

Scrapping relegation would invalidate TV contracts

Martin Ziegler claims that football broadcasters fiercely oppose scrapping relegation saying to do so would breach their contract.

The Chief Sports writer for the Times was quoted as saying: “Senior figures in the broadcasting industry have also told The Times that moves to scrap relegation — as at least one top-flight club is proposing — would risk making the TV contracts invalid as it would turn many of the remaining games into little more than meaningless friendlies.”

However, an unnamed club from the top flight in favour of scrapping relation for the 19/20 season claims 8 out 20 clubs are against neutral grounds, with only 7 votes needed to block it!

    Leaving games early

Do you wait until the final whistle before you leave the football ground, even though by leaving five minutes earlier, it could save you a further hour in congestion?

Have you ever left early, and missed a Leeds Utd comeback?

Has anybody berated you or someone else for leaving early?

If they have paid for their ticket, they can leave when they want, or does this make them any less of a fan?

Morning Elland and all. I once left a Celtic game early. Half time to be exact. Mind you, I slept through most of first half <ok> there was some alcohol involved

    Good morning,

plenty of twists and turns in this yet to come. Every article I read completely changes my mind on how likely we are to get promotion.

There's someone near me who disappears in the 70th minute of every match. I'm sure he misses a lot of traffic but I wonder how many goals he's missed in that time. I've never really left early, maybe by a minute or two the odd time we've been three goals down.

The only time I've ever missed any of our goals at a game I've been at is when I had the ****s a few years ago. We won 3-2, I saw both the other teams goals but missed all three of ours while being in and out of the toilets.

    Morning all.

A year ago Aston Villa went into meltdown on the Elland Road touchline due to what they felt was unsporting behaviour.
Now they are one of six teams calling for relegation to be scrapped. Coincidentally these six teams are the six in that of relegation.

Last season half of the footballing world went ivy meltdown citing unsporting behavoiur and not what we do here after an intern was found watching a training session.
A rule was subsequently twisted to fine Leeds. (Very sporting BTW.)

Now we stand here as six teams try and hold the premier league hostage due to their failings through the season.
They cite the fact that neutral venues would put them at an unfair disadvantage.
    Two points on that-

    1. A neutral ground would be a disadvantage for both teams. Almost making it an even playing field. Very sporting I say.

    2. The six teams involved have collectively won 25 out of 86 home games they've played so far this season.

Now I'm no fancy pants expensive lawyer but I reckon I could make a strong argument that there is no evidence these teams are getting any advantage from playing at home so therefore have no argument.

These teams are desperately trying to cover up their own failings and hopefully the premier league will be strong enough to put them in their place.
The fact that the TV people are against it means it is probably a moot point anyway.

I've never got to my seat late, never gone down early before half time and never left a match early.
These people who do the above always amaze me.

Imagine missing Hernandez's goal against wba because you were queuing for an extra beer.
Imagine missing Roofes goals against Blackburn because you might get out the car park a bit quicker.

Surely both teams are in the same boat regarding playing at a neutral ground, there won't be any supporters there anyway, so there shouldn't be any advantage to either side. Even if they were to play at their home ground, there would be no supporters allowed in either.<ok> Morning all by the way.

I've only left early once at halftime v Chelsea in the 80s and I sat outside the ground for the second half. I missed the coach back and spent my last bit of cash getting a train to Holyhead. John Sheridans Dad was sitting opposite to me and offered me money after I told him what happened to me. I declined it.

Oh just remembered I left early during the Fulham game, but that wasn't because I wanted to.:emoticon-0136-giggl

Only ever left 1 game early, Port Vale in the cup, 2-0 up left on the 90th minute only reason I left early was, I was going to see the Stereophonics at the NEC that night.

People pay their money, they make their choice but some game there are so many. Even 10 mi utes before the final whistle.

As I'm sure somebody has already said, if you eliminate relegation in the PL then being a player in one of those bottom six clubs do you really put your career on the line or just let the other team win, as there is no consequence if you lose. Not very fair to this teams fighting for league position is it?

Seems most supporters have a match day routine and to be honest during the lean years mine reflected the team and general mood around the club. Arrive 5 mins before KO and leave on the final whistle, straight back to the car and with home without it making that much of an impact on the day.

When Bielsa took charge though everything changed and so did I...now I arrive around 90 mins before KO, have a couple of drinks and something to eat and generally just soak up the atmoshere. Watching the players arrive adds to the anticipation and as now every match actually means something there's a genuine mix of excitement and nervous tension amongst the support which is quite addictive.

After the match I'll hang around for an hour or so to let the crowd disperse. The difference in post match atmosphere is of course always influenced by the result and sometimes those late goals mean it's heaven or hell but there is no where better than ER on a match day these last 2 seasons.

Proportion of points-per-game collected at home v away this season.
    Norwich 73% - 27%
    Aston Villa 71%- 29%
    Bournemouth 64% - 36%
    Watford 64% - 36%
    Brighton 64% - 36%
    West Ham 57% - 43%
    Everton 69% - 31%

I think THAT evidence paints a pretty strong case tbh!!

Neutral ground would be the same for all teams. No one would be getting an advantage one way or the other.

All teams can argue one way or the other why this should happen or that should happen. At the end of the day these six teams are grasping at this straw at they see it as a glimmer of hope that their performances could not offer.

It has nothing to do with sporting integrity and everything to do with saving their skins financially.

Aston Villa have 9 games left - 6 of those at home - pretty big statement to say they would not be disadvantaged as 71% of their points were won at home and they are 2 point from safety with a game in hand!!

You're not seriously trying to suggest that the pink away changing rooms haven't worked for Norwich, are you? <yikes>

What's the point of paying for a ticket & leaving five, ten or fifteen minutes early?

I generally head down to the bottom of the kop steps around added-on-time so I can make a quick dash at the final whistle to the loo as I'm usually busting by the end of the game

it only takes seconds to score a goal so why leave early?

At away games we tend to celebrate & applaud the mighty whites off the pitch, then wait until the crowds disperse especially if we are some distance away from the exits as the coaches don't leave the parking areas until at least 30 minutes after the games.

I can't believe 100's of Leeds fans spend much of the away games drinking & chucking beer all over the place in the concourse!

Get what you’re saying. It was a lot harder heading for Dublin airport back in the days of meaningless first round da cup ties in January or Colchester in League 1. Must admit I did many of those trips mainly through loyalty and knew it would get better one day. A lot easier these days making the trip despite being a lot older

Partick Thistle, aka my beloved Jags offered refunds for 2019/20 season ticket holders. Now that the claim deadline has passed, they have announced that only 3.5% of the season ticket holders asked for a refund. How's that for a great bunch of fans, eh?

I wonder what would happen if Leeds went down that road. What percentage would demand a refund?

I wouldn't. They could keep next season's too if it helped them.
