What if we win our next 6 or 7 games CEST - we'd be sitting comfortably in the top half of the table ready to push on - with a much bigger and better squad than last season? I'm not against the BoB of which you're a member Cest but people need to understand that, if we get things right (the club) then it is down to the same person that has got things wrong. IF we manage to sort things out and start playing like we did against Stoke every week - will you accept that bruce is the right man?
Probably not, although I did like the bloke, he seems to have slipped further and further down the managerial chain, having done nothing of note since leaving here. Although his actions at Plymouth would indicate he is a class act.
Bang out of order, this. It wasn't Milton's fault that we never made best use of his attributes and failed to take advantage of his height!
Are you suggesting that he is about to do something he hasn't done in the last 2 years and win 6 or 7 games in the next 10? If he does that, then he can parade me bollock naked around the SOL at Christmas. We have only won 3 in the last 12 at home mate. It's not going to happen. Bruce hasn't got the attacking instincts to win 6 or 7 off the belt. He is far too cautious and a bottler. Reidy could have put that run together with his free flowing attacking football but Mr 1 up front will never ever do it. Win two, loss 5, draw 3 is more likely to be Bruces run. I hope your right mate but don't be wasting any of your hard earned at the bookies backing it.
Interesting take on Reidys reign at the SOL raw. You often accuse me of being negative regarding Bruce and yet when asked about a manager that without question produced the best Sunderland team for 40 years and some of the most breath taking football any of us have ever seen, you chose to instead call into question one of his mistakes and not the many positives available? Not the summerbee, Johnson, super kev or quinny for you. Not the thrashing of teams at the SOL Dr the great derby days under him either. Interesting. Bit hypocritical of you there kidda? Bruces record doesn't even begin to reach the boot laces of reidy and yet you think Bruce is doing fine? Crazy , crazy world we live in alright.
Ahh you never know cest - I will be watching for the bollock naked parade at Christmas - but, as I said, you say he won't do this but IF he soes (stress the if) will you come on here and admit you were wrong? Also - Reid only managed this for 2 seasons - the other 2 seasons he was a victim of his own making - his agent dealings were very dodgy - Kevin Ball was asked a football tsalk in which I attended "Does Peter Reid only use a single agent?" and he answered that he would not go on record as saying yes, but he saw one of the most talented centre halves he'd ever seen in his life playing in our reserves and when his contract came up for renewal he refused to go with Reid's agent - and then quit football - Other than those 2 seasons, Bruce is the most successful manager this club has had in the last 38 years - you cannot argue that fact at all
Marcus. I will gladly come on here and admit I was wrong if Bruce can deliver 5 wins in the next 10 games. How about that? As for Bruces record, I'll say this. He has had the very best support of any manager since the war and yet in has still divided supporters. Financially, boardroom, stadium, fans and ownership are perfect. To have finished anything other than 10th given those circumstances would have been a disgrace. Had Alan Durban, Denis Smith or Reid himself had similar circumstances during their reign and the same level of support, I think they would have far exceeded Bruces meagre achievements in the last 2 years. Had Bruce had to work under their limited budgets and at Roker Park, he would have failed miserably imo.
Cestria, I revelled in them days when Quinny and Super Kev were leading the line and Summerbee and Johnson were supplying the ammunition...However, I still firmly believe that some of the dealings he had with his 'favoured' agent were a little suspect to say the least, and the money he wasted in the latter part of his reign was unforgivable...
Its easier to remember the good than the bad i think. Is this the same Peter Ried who didnt push on from the two 7th finishes and bought Flo. Most fans were calling for his head, of which season tickets and beer were throw at. Yes we had a time in the sunshine with Peter and the best years i have ever seen, but not everything was good, Nunez, Firegaurd, Lallandes (yes i know i cant spell), not being able to replace Quinn which showed me Riedy didnt have any other way to play and lucked out on players, a lot of good management i believe is luck, nobody knew Phillips and Quinn would be so good. Short answer would be no, because we may as well get Wilkinson back because he once won the league.
Would anyone have Peter Reid back? Nope. Did great for us and then lost it completely. He may be a legend for the team he put together (best I've seen in red and white), but I don't want to go back to the shambles that he left.
Yes when Reidy was in charge we played like Barcelona! and dominated football for 7 years. But being serious i he could be assistant to Bruce at the moment. But what happened to Thomas helmer the german international who we signed who he never played?.
Done nowt since he left us and as for tactically inept a big un, a little un and 2 good wingers is not brain surgery... Oh then get rid of the wingers for alleged personal reasons and not replace them. That man fiddled while Rome burned for me... not all his fault but must shoulder some of the blame for what followed his reign so a no from me.
Definately the best football since '73' BUT was it down to Reid or Bobby Saxton. Reid hasn't done too well on his own. What happened when Johnston and Bridges were allowed to leave when both were in their prime. I heard before they signed Phillips they were actually watching Connolly and some guy at Watford tipped them off about Kev.Add to the list Perez,Bernt Hass,Eric Roy. No I would not.
Peter Reid....thanks, but no thanks. A poor manager IMO, who got lucky at Sunderland. The new stadium was probably more of a factor to our "success" than Reidys managerial skills. He got lucky with SKP as well, as it was David Connolly who he was after and we were also very fortunate to pick up points from a lot of games when we were really poor. His man management skills were shockingly bad, and his arrogance and stubborness towards several players were an embarrassment. I would love to hear the views of Allan Johnson, Nicky Summerbee, Thomas Helmer etc, etc, and see what they have to say about Peter Reid. It was luck, and Bobby Saxon who got us to 7th.......and Peter Reid and the hapless Adrian Heath who turned us into a shambles.
errm, remember his "big money buys" - possibly the worst in our history. However he knew how good Quinny was and built a team around him, even going back to Ried, players played out of position WHY!!!!
