Anybody else think that playing games behind closed doors might actually be to our advantage? We can concentrate on actually winning the game rather than entertaining people OTBC FTV
Though I haven't been thinking much about it, I wonder whether having a fully fit squad could make a difference.
Rick. A fully mended Pukki could. TK is the other player who might, but would DF drop Godfrey? Don't think so.
If the season does resume, our starting eleven and set up for the first match will be interesting. One imagines that DF and his staff have been poring over game analyses and stats while in lock down. Wonder what conclusions have been drawn.
That would not happen Zog. At the end of the match VAR would rule out the winning goal because the scorer had the wrong boots on.
A growing number of clubs are open to playing at neutral venues if relegation is removed. - sounds good to me, at least if we finish bottom we still stay up if relegation is removed. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52517532 However in my opinion the season should be declared void, give Liverpool the title (they are so far ahead) have no relegation (City are only 2 wins from safety so it would be unfair to relegate any team) and have a 22 team premier league next season by promoting Leeds & West Brom who are in the automatic promotion places. (Play-offs do not guarantee promotion, they are only a 2nd bite at it)
Personally I would favour completing the season, however long it takes. You cannot just abandon this season. It would only take 5 weeks (2 games a week). Then a 4 week break and continue into June in 2021 to complete next year. Restart the FA cup as far as it has progressed in early 2021.
At this point last year in the Championship, Leeds were in the auto spots and Villa were well adrift of the playoffs. We all know how that turned around. I actually think it's unfair on other teams to promote Leeds and WBA in much the same way it would be unfair to send Norwich and Villa down now without finishing the season. My preference would be to cancel the season and go again when it's really safe to do so. I know most fans would say i'm just biased with Norwich's circumstances in mind but I think it's the only fair and safe way to do it. When people start suggesting games behind neutral closed doors with daily virus tests and social distancing (how), it becomes clear it's not safe to proceed yet.
what about finish this season when it is safe to do so, but the season being elongated playing three or four times so a double season. All the good/ bad starts don't go to waste then
Maybe each team should be linked to their club coloured equivalent in Belarus https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/52460387
I'd be all for finishing the season when it's safe to do so. I just can't see that being anytime soon. If we're waiting for a vaccine then forget starting this year and with governments (not just UK) so keen to get people back to work quickly, a secondary surge in cases is a real possibility. (It's happened with previous epi/pandemics). Maybe i'm just risk averse but it seems crazy to me to risk people's lives to restart footy too soon when the virus is still claiming hundreds of lives each day.
I read a suggestion today that the league should be decided on Pennos. Social distancing? Check. Massive Drama? Check. Easy to set up? Check. Tim Krul? massive Cheque as Norwich stay up unbeaten in remaining fixtures.
I mean it makes sense right - remember the fading light of those long summer evenings playing football down the park with your mates when aged 8 and a three quarters. You've been playing all day and the scores stand at 33 all, and you know you have to be home. There is only one way to decide it - PENNOS. 10 minutes later and it's all over. Victor is declared. Home for tea. Back in the park the next day for round 2 of the Summer Holidays. Every one's a winner.
