https://www.skysports.com/football/...pective-new-owners-no-1-choice-to-take-charge Case you can't be bothered reading: Mauricio Pochettino is Newcastle's prospective new owners' number one choice to be the next manager at St James' Park and they are willing to pay him £19m a year to take charge of the club. Rafa to be offered job if Poch deal falls through. For perspective, Poch would be the second highest paid manager in the league, only behind Guardiola.
Top managers on a roll currently have a habit of hopping from top club to top club, we'd be considered a step down by many. I think for 3 - 4 years Poch would do a good job.
As of December last year Rodgers salary has been doubled, that was the new contract he received to scare off Arsenal. He's now on £10M, but to me both managers have shown an equal competence, I would be happy with either.
Ah fair enough. They're probably on a similar level like and would be a massive improvement on Bruce I didn't realise Simeone was the highest paid manager in the world. That explains why he's stayed at Atletico for so long I suppose
As I said previously, they're edging their bets by saying Rafa will be offered the job as a backup. All known journalists have said that no one has been approached yet. Pochettino said last night that he would love to return to Spurs and win the only trophies that matter.
Yeah, was funny, I don't think Poch sees himself in the Newcastle job and as I've said I would find it astonishing if it wasn't Rafa.
Would obviously take Poch or Rafa. Two quality managers. I think Sky are getting ahead of themselves (not for the first time). There may have been informal conversations with Poch but its most likely an 'off record' comment by someone connected to the Newcastle takeover. I.e 'Poch would be a great option'. That doesn't mean he's not the number one choice but I also don't think we're that close yet, especially with so much uncertainty around the season.
And it goes without saying that there's a lack of class in all of this. Yes, Poch is an upgrade on Bruce. Yes, I would rather have him for the long term and trust him more to build a project and compete at the highest levels. But Bruce is a local lad who has tried his best. And he's done fine. We're safe. He is also the job holder and whilst he'd of course get a pay off, there will be so much uncertainty for him. He can't be feeling great right now. Its fine for us to speculate about the future but we need to set an example for the press. They won't set on themselves. We need to appreciate that Bruce did what he did and make sure that if he leaves, he leaves knowing the club respect what he did
Poch doesn't seem that interested, but I would love him here, he definitely took Spurs to the next level, and they're seeing consequences of replacing him with Mourinho already. Rafa is Rafa, obvs would love him back, I think he'd be interested too, much more a challenge here than his retirement home in China. £19m a year is mental though, I think Sir Bobby was on 500k a year, I know there's been mad inflation in football since then, but that must still be one of the highest manager salaries in the league, if not the highest.
With regard to Stevie and respect I am not aware of either Staveley & Co or the Club saying anything publicly. All we have had are a lot of unfounded rumours. In regard to Poch he will be aware of the job as possibly being open and has then "gone on" about Spurs from what I have read. I haven't seen his interview. If he has I would forget about him and look for someone else. As far as £19M wage is concerned if true I find that obscene and no-one should earn that much.
Rafa or Poch? I'd be delighted with either if the takeover goes through. Both are top class managers and it would be exciting to see what they could do with big financial backing in the transfer market.
Our manager should want to be here. If Bruce moves on then I'd have Rafa back. He's obviously under contract in China and a principled man. But the media story about £19m a year. That's hard to justify, especially in these troubled times
In the current climate yes, otherwise not really. That's the going rate for a top end manager i'm afraid Here's the top 5 jfyi (per year) 1. Diego Simeone - £36.2m 2. Pep Guardiola - £20m 3= Jose Mourinho - £15m 3= Jurgen Klopp - £15m 5. Zinedine Zidane - £14m Simeone ain't going anywhere anytime soon based on that, he's on £140k PER DAY. I'd love him at the Toon but we're a million miles off an appointment like that, 3-5 years maybe. £19m for Poch is probably about right, i'd rather have Rafa for £5m less in all honesty but what's £5m a year when your family is worth £1.4 trillion?
Is Pochettino a top end manager though? Koeman did better than him at Southampton and he didn't do that much better than Redknapp or AVB at Spurs. Is he worth £1 million less than Guardiola? Guardiola has won 8 league Titles. Pochettino hasn't even won a single trophy.
