It’s the Swedish strategy to allow a higher rate of infection to move towards ‘herd immunity’. Once you understand this everything else becomes clear. The other Scandinavian countries have a different strategy. They will have to return to lock downs during future waves of the virus. Your cut and pasting is great but you are not comparing like for like. The tragic thing is that the UK is sort of following the Norway/Denmark approach yet has more infections than Sweden, which is aiming for a higher rate of infection.
My lad is back at work full time as of today, and delighted about it. I think the lockdown will disintegrate of its own accord, mainly due to economic pain, but also due to confusing communication from multiple sources.
Once again, old news. Borders have been manned and checked for over a month. No one has had a problem with that. Many towns and cities in Spain have locked down and manned entrance points for ages. what’s your actual point? I may be able to help you.
The lockdown is already disintegrating due to it never really being a lockdown at all. Spoke to the owner of my local builders merchants today, they had 285 vehicles in one day collecting all sorts of materials, just about all were tradesmen. Some think the lockdown is a good idea, some think its ****, if a loved one was on a ventilator or god forbid you lost someone close, then opinion might change. I for one think there should have been a strict lockdown but that's all too late now anyway. We've let millions back in to the country without a single health screening, encouraged mass gatherings until the science suddenly changed and now we have more shops opening daily.
I would have shut schools immediately, closed the borders immediately, all if any inbound passengers to be quarantined for 14 days and contact traced. All mass gatherings closed immediately. Only essential workers to work. Forbid any non essential travel and contact. Etc
A couple of stand out difference: Lockdowns were in place long before UK. Mandatory quarantine for anyone coming back from Italy, China, Spain and for some reason Philippines was way before that. DK and NOR cannot be remotely compared to UK for density. The only time there’s a rush here is when the Head Waiter announces the arrival of the first truffles and asparagus. Worst still, when the Sommelier informs there is only one bottle of Mersault left!! Lastly, we didn’t continue to let the world come in unchecked. Or a Mayor informing you couldn’t catch the virus on public transport.
A more draconian lockdown would have caused even more damage to the economy, leading to more hardship and deaths down the line. The lockdown has been about right imo. We need to get more people back to work and getting checked by their GP now though.
This is what they did in Spain and they have the worst death rate in Europe. I think the death rate is a function of demographics and how healthy the population was in the first place. Why I said ‘sort of’. A case of the blind following the bland. How’s the fitness regime?
Deal with that down the line, deal with what's killing people right now...now! I would rather myself and loved ones be alive and suffer hardship than be dead. That's how simple it is to me. But alas, that's really all irrelevant as what will be will be. One thing I think we all agree on, the government have made mistakes whatever side of the fence you're on.
I reckon we have the worst death rate in Europe. Spain were a tad late to the party also. I remember 3000 fans flying to liverpool and back.
Christ!! This would, imo, have led to many, many more deaths down the line than the virus would have produced. I also think that, in 5 years time, the consequences of the shredding of most of the world's economy will be far worse than this virus. Having said that, I understand why we couldn't let our NHS be overrun. Mission accomplished on that front.
Possibly when you factor in care homes etc, but I’m sure there are hidden deaths everywhere. We probably have one of the least healthy populations in Europe, the Italians certainly have the oldest population. These things make a big difference, no matter how tough your lockdown.
Don’t you follow your LinkedIn? There was an unexpected picture taken of me coming off a Lear jet of all things last week. Bastards didn’t give me a chance to suck the cheeks and belly in!!! Not too bad in all honesty G. Stay safe and well all yours. I took a punt on Gilsead for small stakes - you’ll be lucky to be offered the Torres at this rate
Of course. Me too. Unfortunately, there's every chance that some of the same people will be adversely affected by the consequences of trashing our economy. We'll have to agree to differ on this one I fear mate.
