In Spain today was the first time in four weeks, I think, that children have been allowed out. The photos I have seen from Valencia and a short video from Barcelona didn’t show a lot of social distancing being maintained. It would be sad to see them experience a second wave of infections as a result of easing the restrictions a little too soon.
If only we knew someone (nearly) married to one of the top execs at Reuters... (Let me know when the time comes...)
That sounds interesting. Thank you. I phoned head office this morning to try to speak to a director, but no one, allegedly, is in the building, other than those on the switchboard. I have left a message with the switch, requesting that a very senior person calls me back, but also left a message that I have run out of patience and I am ready to go public. I have constructed an email to send to the company press office, laying out my issue and informing them of my intent to go to various news outlets, with a view to getting this into the public domain, which might encourage other employees, who don’t yet realise their eligibility for furlough, to request it, something I am sure they would like to avoid. I am giving them a few hours to call me back, before pressing the send button.
We are beginning to see break downs in our employees' positive attitude to taking all possible measures to ensure everyone is safe from Covid-19. It has started from one person [let's call him "the catalyst"] All day today, whenever I looked in his direction, he was not wearing his face mask. Even when he was walking up to others and talking. I have no idea if he ever washed his hands with the personal sanitary cleanser we all carry around with us. Gradually, throughout the day, another person, here or there started to abandon their masks [if the catalyst is doing it, why can't I?] I've made my views well known, so people have come to me and said how pissed off they are to see others not following company guidelines [or rules of work within the building], when they have dependants at home who are self isolating, and in two cases, have long term health issues. The impression from the catalyst is - Covid-19 is a government conspiracy. My answer to that is - you can believe in fairies at the bottom of your garden, for all I care, but just wear the mask for others until you get in your car to go home, and when this lockdown is over. Yes, it is uncomfortable. Yes it is ****ing inconvenient. It's uncomfortable and inconvenient for all of us. But we do it because we care. I spoke to a woman who I regularly work with. She said, "I don't believe in this virus." There's no debating with that attitude. Second wave may well be ready and waiting. We could still be at this come Xmas time.
My mums neighbour was taken to hospital this morning with suspected covid 19, mum said she did not look well at all. Her neighbour is only 48 and she is a regularly jogger, just shows this virus doesn’t discriminate age or fitness.
No they won’t, unfortunately. This afternoon I had an email from the head of department- employment law, still saying that as they don’t “need” to use the furlough scheme, I don’t qualify. HMRC says I do, so the fight continues. I have told them that their view deserves a wider audience, so they won’t mind if I share it on a variety of media platforms. Although I keep coming back to this, it’s not just about me, it’s also about all those other key workers who have been told, by their essential business employers, that if they want to take time off to care for their children, or a vulnerable person, they must use up their annual leave or take unpaid leave. They too are being taken advantage of, because the rules have changed, and this, as much as anything else, is possibly the reason why Lidl might be constantly refusing to do the honourable thing. A member of this forum is trying to get me some media support, through a contact, for which I am grateful. If anyone else can give me a leg up, with an introduction to someone who might be interested in giving this some publicity, I would appreciate it.
Some people will never understand, until they maybe catch the damn thing. I posted yesterday about social distancing not being so well observed in Spain, on the first day that children were allowed out. My niece, living in Berlin, is reporting a similar reaction there, with the loosening of the lockdown rules. If we don’t get it right now, we will have a second wave and have to do it all over again.
She must have been in a bad way if she needed to be hospitalised. I popped out to get some milk, Saturday, and saw a notice posted on our entrance, confirming that we had a positive diagnosis in the small block I live in. Don’t know who, which apartment, or how well the person is, but the potential for it to spread is increased by the fact it is an “over 55” apartment block, with care workers who interact with several residents. Not us, thankfully, as we have always maintained our independence, but scary all the same, knowing how close it is.
Apparently she deteriorated in a short time, she works nights in a care home. Just hope she makes a speedy recovery.
You have a very serious management issue. Your company and individuals are at serious culpability risk if you fail to protect them and others from their own ignorance. As a retired teacher I will tell you that you must draw your line in the sand and never, ever let anyone cross it and get away with it. If you do others will try it on and slaughter you if you try and pick them up on it. Your management has to address this PPE matter urgently and not stand by and ignore it. If one of your employees fully complies with you procedures but becomes ill as a consequence of another employee failing to comply with your health and safety policies don't be surprised when you get sued for negligence and failing to ensure the safety of your employees. Anyone who deliberately breaches life protecting H&S rules should be dismissed immediately. I would love to work in your company as a supervisor. Your team would hate me.
The difficulty would be proving that the virus was actually caught there, but I am with you all the way.
Had the realization that none of my bleak and awful matchday threads were as bleak and awful as reality ended up being. Clearly needed to try harder.
This thread’s been a joy this morning. I can count my blessings that a) my employers generally act decently b) they don’t employ Godders as a supervisor c) They don’t employ Schad as a team morale builder. Oh yeah, and d) I’m still healthy. That’s the main one.
