I'm interested to know if you gave up on the Sopranos @St Badger. We watched every minute of every season, loved it. Once you get to know the characters it becomes easier I think.

The Irish SAS have parachuted into a zoo in Algeria.
Early reports say they’ve freed all the ostriches.

I was an accountant from the age of 20 to 30 but was sacked for no reason.
What a waste of 14 years that was.

As you possibly know, I am interested in AI. And today there was an excellent video [imo] made to examine the science paper written by Alan Turing around 70 years ago, and what flowed from it. In it, there is a description of the Turing Test. However, there is also a more modern day test called the Loebner Prize, which began in 1991, and carries on until today. The video is made by Lex Fridman, and it is an hour long, so I wouldn't expect anyone to stay the distance. But there is one little thing that first happens around 10:05 which made me giggle. It might amuse you too. [Clue: it involves Southampton FC]

Well, ****. That's a sweet, bittersweet hooray. The other day I bought a new drivebelt for my ancient Thorens TD160/GH228 turntable/pickup combo, as I'm going to find a way to press it into service. Cost £10.95 all the way from Germany [+£2.54 post], as it was a genuine replacement for Thorens turntables. [yeah, ok. A mortgage for genuine Linn Sondek drive belts]. So I gingerly unearthed it from its hiding place for the last err.... 15 years, maybe? Or 20. For the last 10 it's had a PL12D sat on top of it too. Anyway, cleared a path and brought it downstairs. Here goes nothing, I thought, and plugged it in. It started perfectly with the old belt. I changed speeds, then quickly. The old belt is perfectly fine. Even has good tension. Hooray/Bollocks/Hooray! Perhaps I should have checked?

leads me to one of my favourite jokes....

There are only three types of accountants: those that can count and those that can’t.

..You could get a job in IT with that kind of binary thinking.

This memory, from 2013, popped up on my Facebook page, today. Something I had forgotten I had posted.

Thanks to touch screen, smart phones, I think I have invented the act of "moobing".

As I tend to put the phone in my shirt pocket, often before the screen has gone dead, I have, in the last week, managed to ring both my sons, just by using my moobs.

I think this worthy of an entry in the OED.
Verb, To moob, as in "Shall I put my phone in my pocket and moob someone?" or "Yesterday, I moobed my son by accident."

Can't wait to get hold of my new phone case, to prevent hearing voices coming from my shirt pocket, as in "Hello pops, have you phoned me by accident?"

    Doh

    Just found the website www.conjunctivitis.com
There’s a site for sore eyes.

I didn’t think my orthopaedic shoes would do the job, but I stand corrected.

More good news, searching some old files I found the photo my old avatar was taken from along with another couple of hundred pictures I was missing. I had to open a new account when the original StJabbo was nobbled.

My wife asked if she could have a little peace and quiet while she cooked dinner... So I took the battery out of the smoke detector.

I'm a really big fan of the Bee Gees and I also like cooking Chinese food... You can tell by the way I use my wok.

My mate said I wasn't a true cockney, so I pushed him down the apples and oranges.

I've found a chip shop in West London that serves its fish on photocopier paper... It's a little plaice on the A4.
