I would be surprised for our prospective new owners to have spent so much time and money getting this bid ready, if they weren't comfortable they would pass the PL test. Surely they would have considered the effect these piracy allegations could have and concluded that it wouldn't pose an issue. As I understand there has been no formal accusation under the British legal system so no legal precedent for this. For the PL to fail them on this would represent them stepping way beyond their mandate.
I was under the impression having read through the stages of the buying process that all parties are given an answer on whether they will pass before the actual checks. here is the part that caught my attention because it is the stage prior to the final stage ie. The check Premier League notification A new rule introduced in 2009 stated that the Premier League must be informed TEN working days before the takeover is completed. According to Geey “in practice, in the build-up to the takeover confidential talks will almost always take place between the potential new owner and the Premier League to ensure everything is in order”. Richard Scuadmore, then Premier League chief executive, said: “Anyone looking to become an owner or director of a club would have to let us know in advance and we would given them an answer at the time of the proposed takeover whether they can or can’t”. Perhaps a few of the more intelligent chaps on here would like to read through this and let me know if I'm right. https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/spo...ews/newcastle-united-takeover-latest-16367520
This seems to be in line with the only one who seems genuinely ITK - Steve Wraith. I'm not saying the bloke's awesome, but from his Twitter feed and previous contact with Staveley seems very reliable and he's extremely calm about it. Today said "advice of the day - don't believe everything you read".
When Steve Wraith is the calming influence then you know some of us have been getting a bit carried away!
Exactly my point, mate - if there was anything to actually get worried about, this bloke would be the first on the soap box.
I have to say that I'm concerned at how infuriating this will be if the arseholes have succeeded in denying this area this fantastic opportunity.
Folk seem to be missing an important point, the Saudis aren’t buying the club. They will have an 80% stake only. UK companies own the rest. With the board set to comprise only one Saudi the consortium can rightly argue that some of the club will remain in British ownership. This I think is why the Saudis didn’t just outright buy the club. They knew they needed to retain UK roots... for now...
If you hadn't gone in balls deep on the Prem board you probably wouldn't be so worried. Just chill and pretend you haven't been winding anyone up. It will be much more relaxing and better for your sanity!
If there's some evidence, whether proven or not in court, but suspicions all the same that the Saudis have allowed piracy to go on against the Qataris, then the question should be asked to get it stopped. Many would suggest that bringing them to the table and having another customer who wants to make money from our game might be perfect way of increasing overseas income. Poacher turned gamekeeper?
Any one else interested in setting up a thread to guess how many times before the "Friday" announcement CC will change his mind to from it's done to it's not to it's done to it's not etc?
The culture Secretary has publicly stated that the UK have a good and ongoing relationship with the Saudis. The last thing our government want is to publicly embarrass the Saudis. The Premiership aren't going to be allowed to force our government to grovel for continued arms and fighter jet contracts.
You know when you go to the shops and you buy a **** load of shopping and then pay for it with your card, do you then spend days and days wondering whether the payment has gone through and the deal has been done with the supermarket? No. Why? Because.......... I T S D O N E
