Does SKy have enough channels to carry every Prem and EFL game left to be played? Will the increased games result in increased viewership? Is it worth paying the EFL clubs enough for it to be a win-win? What about overseas rights?
Sky already show virtually every non Saturday Championship game live via the red button. L1 & L2 they only show their chosen live game. The majority of EFL clubs are also already signed up the ifollow platform where clubs can stream their matches live through their own online digital service. The price per match is £10 and is available for Chanpionship, L1 &L2 clubs. Leeds (and some other clubs) opted out of ifollow but still stream via LUTV and charge £10 domestically and £5 internationally per game.
easy fans could pay to have their muriel stuck on a seat in the ground where their team is playing and then included in this price would be free viewing of the game on LUTV or other clubs TV these games would be behind closed doors with live football games for the fans , everyone would be happy with this , the football club , the fans and the TV companies .
Leeds legend Lee Bowyer hits the nail firmly on the head. Can't see how this season can possibly be concluded. There are 1000 players whose contract's expire at the end of June. https://www.football.london/charlton-athletic-fc/charlton-boss-tells-leeds-liverpool-18112819
In fairness, it’s looking more likely, this talk of finishing seasons behind closed doors is simply fantasy stuff and will never happen. Some tough decisions coming up, hopefully they go our way
There's no way on God's earth that the EPL will get the 14 votes needed to agree to relegate the bottom 3 - won't happen. That only leaves making it a 22 team league. That could be a possibility, but again, 14 votes would be needed. Would teams already moaning about amount of games played agree to an extra 4? They'd also have to completely renegotiate the TV deal, something they might not fancy trying under current circumstances.
I agree there is not likely to be relegation. How they would deal with promotion then is a different matter. Epl would happily have a club of the stature back in its ranks as would the broadcasters so most likely scenario for me will be Leeds and WBA promoted to an expanded pl. of course situation changes daily so could look different in a week or a month
Leeds should be alright. Ben White & JKA are on ‘season-long loans’ and the season hasn’t finished. Your desperation to see the season voided because you know we’re going up if it’s played to a finish is becoming palpable.
The PL won't want to stump up £762m for failing to finish this season either, some £38M per team, Sky are taking a huge hit at the moment so don't expect them to let anyone off lightly
It’s not what anyone or any association want to do. It’s what they are allowed do. At moment nothing and highly unlikely to change while social distancing exists even behind closed doors. It’s just the reality. Contact sports are a long way off. Stuff like snooker darts and golf are manageable without audiences
Yeah, I really want that, it's not as if we are only 2 points off the playoffs and half of our remaining games are against teams in the bottom 5
Next season's sky deal is supposed to start on 1st August. Do they risk breaching contracts for 2 seasons or cut losses at 1? There are no guarantees that it will be ok to play in August.
If the season can't be finished, there will be plenty of moans and groans, whatever they do. Not a fan of either the FA or EFL but they really are in a no win situation here. Lots of differing opinions floating around.
Exactly Gesa. You cannot just change the laws or rules of the game for a few exceptions. The future of the game as a whole is far more important.
I still say that money will dictate the decisions. And by money, I mean Sky. Have they made any suggestions yet? If so, I would put the house on it being the way forward. Leftfield thought: Sky might be quite satisfied with the way their business is running presently. They might surprise us all & ditch football altogether on a breach of contract basis, if the sums work out. After all, they only targeted football to get them up & running. They're a far more mature organisation now & might make more money running as they currently are - i.e. minus the PL output & no PL subscriptions coming in. Just a wild thought - but possible if the numbers tot up. EDIT: In fact, their silence might lend credence to this conspiracy theory I've just thought up!
Germany have just extended the ban on social gathering and events (more than 2 people) until the 31st August. The Bundesliga in effect ruled out till at least then. Their TV deal is worth 5bn euros, so TV money is having zero influence there.
