What did everyone think of him today? I personally thought he looked excellent, looked mobile, quick(ish), and possessed a bit of awarness - something i think Paul Hayes lacks. Also a superb bit of hold up play and through ball for the 3rd goal. Would any of you be too surprised if he began to replace Hayes in the starting XI some time in the near future? Thoughts? P.S. Still need to learn to hold onto a 2-0 lead! A better side would have got back into the game today, alarmingly slow start in the 2nd half, again! On a positive note, the 1st half display was excellent! COYR!
didnt go today because my wifes pregnant ,but what ive seen on you tube he looks quite a decent type player scored some brilliant volleys, hes a confidence type player for some reason didnt work out for him at "well"i think cp can get the better of him over the next few games and hopefully he be the ideal player for us.IN jan i would like perhaps 3 or 4 more come in so we have competition when injuries occur love for us to go for ricketts whos available on a free in jan and a few others whos contract has run upby then.
The impression is that it is inevitable that he will replace Hayes. Looks just the type of player we need.
I'm inclined to agree that Hayes is not the quickest or that mobile. However, a lack of awareness...? No way. Hayes's whole game is about awareness. His ability to bring others into the game and to link the midfield and attack is why he's in the team. I've not seen the new boy yet so i can't pass judgement on him. However, from what others have said on here they're both very similar in terms of what they can bring to the team. It's early days for Kermogant. Todays cameo appears to have been well received, but lets not get carried away by pulling apart our strike force just yet ay? A few more showings like today and his claims for a starting place won't be done any harm at all. Back to Hayes... In spite of his good link up play and ability to bring others into the game, Imo he doesn't carry enough of a genuine and consistent goal threat. So, if in time Kermogant proves he can do the same job as Hayes whilst adding more of a goal threat into the mix I'm all for him starting up top with BWP in place of Hayes. Time will tell, but competition for places can only be a good thing.
Calm down, everyone! This guy is a few weeks short of 30. At this stage he is not going to suddenly become anything he hasn't been before. Why should we assume that he carries more of a goal threat than Hayes? Their goals-to-games ration over their careers are very similar (and not very impressive). There are reasons why his career has never taken off and why after being esteemed by knowledgable coaches like Fernandez and Ericson he is suddenly released on a free. I don't know what they are, but I would guess fitness and temperament. My guess is he will never command a regular starting place. Games here and there when others are injured and as substitute to change games (but not to shore us up when we are ahead). If he does a great job in those roles then it will be a very worthwhile signing. Any one position we strengthen, even on the bench, could make the difference between promotion or not, as this league is so tight. Just don't hype him up only to be disappointed and turn on him later because he is not as good as Cantona. In pre-season we were saying Euell looked a class above in the friendlies, and wouldn't it be great if we could sign him (but of course we couldn't possibly afford his wages). Well, we did sign him and now people cannot wait to demote him even from the subs bench. He is the same player he was two months ago. Moderation in all things. please. Luckily, CP seems a steady type who has a plan and will stick to it.
Well he was part of a championship play-off team last year...and guessing he's released because of THAT penalty. It doesn't mean he's a terrible player...but when you do something like that, your time at a club is over.
His goalscoring record has been terrible for the past few seasons but he impressed today, and let's be honest, if he does come into the team and doesn't do well, Hayes, Euell, Benson, Smith and Popo will all be forcing their way up the pecking order so not the end of the world.
Kermit was a different class to Hayes for 10 minutes yesterday. I doubt that he is fit enough yet to play a full 90 minutes but what he contributed yesterday was class and could be game changing. He held the ball up well and had great awareness of the game around him when he got the ball. His pass to Waggy enabled the cross for the third. His interplay and awareness of the positions of both BWP and Waggy as well as the central midfield impressed me. His ability to receive the ball was impressive. Hayes consistently has a problem controlling the ball from a pass longer than 15 metres with the first touch cannoning onto an opppostion players foot. In the same way that BWP can control the pass, Kermit did the same. He is not as lithe in the turn as BWP but he is more difficult to rob of the ball. Tewchnically a better player. Yes he may have had an attitude issue with Leicester but I guess he was also surplus to requirements with all the spending that has gone on under Sven. If I am not mistaken he contracted Leukemia as a youngster and many clubs will be frightened off by the possibility of a re-occurence. I am more than happy to have him on the bench at the moment but if hisplay continues in the same vein off the bench as gets his fitness back he is one for the starting line up. Now songs for Kermit the Frog -- can only be Bom- BomBom we all stand together!
You couldn't drop Hayes at the moment but Kermergent did much more in his cameo than Euell has done, and has probably leapt ahead of him in the pecking order. In fact to my mind Euell is now redundant on the bench, which would look more balanced with an attacking midfielder. With Pritchard out I'd opt for Evina, who has looked good in both cup games. He offers another option on the left, especially since JJ can play CM or LB if needed.
Evina is more a left back I would go with Bover as the attacking midfielder. He was one of the brighter moments in the game against Preston and made space for himself to receive the ball.
I'm more than happy with Hayes. Not enough praise for the way he took his goal.. Just re-watched it on tv and was a beautiful touch.
Is always great to see Paul Hayes score IMO because he works his socks of for the team Unfortunately most fans will look at the time he ran through 1:1 with the GK (@ Exeter was it) and his heavy touch went straight to the GK and yesterday the chance he wasted when BWP unselfishly passed to him. Though saying once again... Paul Hayes was not signed by this club to score goals - There is oh so much more to modern day football than just having a Striker who can put it in the net
It was good to see Hayes in better form than he was against Exeter and yes he did miss the open goal yesterday that BWP unselfishly gave him. He does work hard and covered quite a distance yesterday, his tracking back was good and he offers a lot. However, I believe a fit and motivated Kermorgant will be an asset and only when he is fully fit can we see how good he is. He hasn't had a pre season and was fitness training himself until he arrived at Sparrows Lane. If that is what he can do with only 45 minutes of a "reserve" match against the Whammers reserves, then I think he will more than make the grade for us.
Having been abit of a hayes critic in the past ive warmed to him..those around me seem to slate him and he wasnt at his best second half but I like him he adds something to the team and chips in with his share of goals. Kermogant looked decent and it was the right substitution at the right time he looked decent enough and made th third goal.
Eddie How old was CP when he was suddenly discovered to be an England player??? So I don't buy your "At this stage he is not going to suddenly become anything he hasn't been before." arguement. We saw little enough of him at Leicester and before that he was largely a French league player. I'm not certain we can be sure of what his level is.
What was good about the Kermogant appearance yesterday was that he improved the team - something I'm afraid Euell hasn't done when he's come on. That doesn't mean I think he should start yet, because for me Hayes works very well with BWP. Some of his touches didn't come off, but every time he was looking for the right ball, sometimes just couldn't execute. Interesting that for the 3rd goal Kermogant put the ball in a place where Waggy could do nothing but cross. I can't think of any other occasion yesterday when he got behind their full back.
from where i was sat, it looked like Kermogant won all the headers he went for and made sure his pass got to the player intended to. he seems good, but 20 mins isnt enough to say if he's better than hayes. the most annoying thing with hayes is that he has flashes of good points, but has too many parts in a match where you get frustrated at him for a loose ball or not running for a challenge / or running to the ball.
I think we'll all pretty much agree that Hayes and Kermorgant are very similar. Neither are going to score the goals to blow this league apart, but both have/appear to have the ability to provide the ammunition for BWP to do so… happy days… providing BWP stays fit that is…!! I’m probably guilty of going on a bit, but I am so very worried at our lack of cover for BWP. He is prone to an injury or two throughout a season and if he does pick up a mid to long term injury… Who’s going to score the goals to continue our push to escape this league…? Waggy…? Kermorgant…? Euell…? Hayes…? Popo…? I couldn’t give a monkeys who plays out of Hayes or Kermorgant if I’m honest. Having two players of a similar ilk who can be effective as a second striker is a nice problem to have imo. It’s who plays in place of BWP should he get injured that concerns me…!!
I love BWP, but think there is enough in the team to still win when he doesn't play. We've already done it this season! Between Hayes, waggy/green, Stephens, Hollands etc- we've proven there isn't a reliance on one player.
I hope you’re right Super, I really do…!! It’s one thing doing without him for the odd game here and there but if he’s missing for a block of games we are in trouble. Imo a player of his ability and goal scoring prowess is always missed when unavailable…!!
