I am thinking this could be a goer atm Have heard a few separate sound bites But heard that 15th May is go back to training day for clubs Think I saw somewhere that the clubs are being told to be prepared for a 4 week prep period for return Which ties in with what you are writing Think it will depend, obviously, on how this thing goes but in terms of seeing a plan this could be it (which to me seems crazy - but), I would just wait till it’s completely over, then arrange to finish all the comps then look at how we play a complete season next season and see if we can align it with the upcoming ****tard of a World Cup.
There does seem to be a widespread desire to finish this season. For our league, the tv companies threatening to take back their money was a factor, not sure if they have now gone back on that with conflicting reports. The tv money is different in every European league so it isn't the driving force for most. The idea of abandoning one season to wait to start another is crazy given that we don't know when a return with fans will be possible. We won't be seeing fans in stadiums for a long time imo. If you're waiting for a return to football with fans that would mean no football for possibly 12 - 18 months. Behind closed doors, while not ideal 'football without fans ......' is a very good way of finishing what's nearly over while also keeping tv people happy and giving millions of fans the positive experience of watching the live sport they are craving. No football for 18 months will see some clubs disappearing altogether. One of the biggest things for me is wanting to see a never give up attitude so I'm pleased that there is a genuine desire to not just give up and wait for a big expanse of nothingness but to actively seek solutions. It could be possible to have two seasons running in calendar years 2021 and 2022 finishing in time for the WC. It goes without saying that health is far more important than any of this.
There's a couple of big threads on this on the PL board. Some people are completely deluded and think this season can be voided and then everything will be normal again next season.
People saying void this season and start next season afresh are completely ignoring the fact that football with fans is a long way off, football behind closed doors needn't be. Without fans is a short term fix to finish this season where all teams earn their position, especially those facing relegation, European places are sorted and millions of football fans get a little bit of joy amongst the misery. We're told the virus will be around next winter too so next season is already going to be disrupted. Voiding this season is voting to not have a season finish again for the foreseeable. As a society we're learning how to live with a virus. That society includes football too who will also have to learn how to live with a virus. If giving up is the go-to response then we might as well give up now. Society isn't giving up, we're finding ways around the virus keeping safe as we can while we go. Sport has to do the same.
for clubs like Bournemouth it must seem a bit odd that huge companies can use the furlough scheme without anyone batting an eye but being a PL club ,with gates of not much above 10000 , faces pressure not to even though they were making it up to 100% . Large amount of double standards being applied atm .
I made that comment in relation to Spurs and used it again as a bit of a joke when Bournemouth did the same. I don't know whether double standards covers this situation. If it's wrong for large businesses with other lines of credit to use it, it's wrong, whether it's Virgin Atlantic or a PL football club.
Exactly. I think what clearly needs to happen is each team in every league has to get its players and essential club staff (i.e. everyone involved in playing a pro football match and operating / running a stadium, without fans obviously) clear of any virus through testing so they either 100% don't have it, or have had it and are now not contagious and immune. All those players and essential club staff should only be allowed to be on their own, at home with family who are also virus free, or in a contained environment among other non-infected people, such as at matches where it's a sterile environment, so to speak. Then all they do is train, go home, play a match, go home etc. That seems the only way. It's a ridiculous prospect and a massive undertaking but that seems to me is what's going to have to happen if there's to be any more football and completion of the season.
That's one solution I've seen. I've also read about having a kind of football festival at a few locations, similar to how they run a WC and for a similar length of time. Nobody knows how this virus situation will play out. The only certainty I can see is that we won't be in lockdown for ever. We've had to be creative and make adaptations in how we manage our movements and contact with each other. Sport will have to do the same.

Forgive us for not caring, its just a sport. 2020 has screwed up some many peoples lives that we'll be feeling this for the next ten years. Are you so desperate for this that you want to celebrate on your own in your bedroom? Is it really that important? You clearly are the best team, but the fun has gone. The season is over. Lets hope there's another one that we can all enjoy with our communities still intact.
On one hand, I understand what your saying. On the other I miss the football, things are not going to well at the minute in the FOOL household. Things are definitely on a bit of a knife edge. I would kill to watch the match, alleviate a bit of the worry and panic with 90 minute of football. It's not about winning the league, through all the ups and downs in life, your football club is the constant, something to look forward to. Now during this most ****ed up of times, I really wish the football was there to help people threw
What are you proposing though? If people are sad for ten years then no football for ten years? If the fun has gone from football for you then walk away and focus on other things. But don't use your pain as an excuse to tell other people they should walk away too.
