As I said a while back, if a few League One and lower-half Championship clubs did it and then we did, the PR would have been very different - instead of us doing it, Saltypool doing it but not getting a tenth of the ****, then Sunderland and Crewe
That statement looks pretty contrite in this age of "never admit error or say that you're sorry"...and quite right too. The final sentence... "...and hope the work our supporters will see us doing in the coming weeks, as our stadium takes on a whole new purpose, will make them proud of their club." ...suggests (correctly in my case) that many fans were ashamed of the original decision. Rightly, now the owners of the club have the opportunity to get it right and restore some pride. I hope that they do because this has been an embarrassing shambles and a stain on the club's reputation.
"It was said at the time that companies who were of a similar size to Tottenham were using the job retention scheme that the government put in place. But football is different. Football pays its players a lot of money, football receives a lot of money from TV - therefore there is scrutiny that other businesses just do not have." And **** journalists are happy to follow the Tory lead and spout their bullshit. Football pays its players a lot of money? Yeah, it's the only business that pays it's top employees a lot, isn't it? Mace Group furloughing 800 staff while paying millions in bonuses, let alone salaries, is completely different.
Other employers being in the wrong doesn't make any difference to me. If I have previously used the services of firms who have dumped their workforce's wages on the taxpayer unnecessarily, then they won't be getting my custom again.
I'm not actually complaining about the firms. The scheme is designed for this ****. Opening it up to them and then having ministers deflect from their failures by pointing at footballers is my issue. They know that people won't consider the intentional flaw in the design.
Not pretending I made a blind bit of difference but I am really glad I emailed the club the club and made it clear that unless the decision was reversed that they would lose our 5 memberships plus several mates too. Our fans did well to put enough pressure on and fair in fairness the club listened...eventually!
From : [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: Who will rid me of this turbulent pee-sock magnet !!?? ...
I suspect that the ST renewals were not sufficiently advanced to enable Levy to go full Kroenke and not back down.
From the response I got to my email...within 24 hrs!!!...it seems many members were contacting them...good to see so many defending the lowest paid imho!
Wow! Wait for the headline in 19 years time when a player born at the stadium runs out to play their debut at the very same stadium.
You are the single most cynical person I have ever come across...and I have tons of spurs mates That ain't a criticism btw...I am in awe
Reports in France suggest that Lyon head of recruitment Florian Maurice, who was on our list of prospective DoFs, has opted to join Rennes. While the assumption is that at some point we'll have to accept that dropping our trousers and asking what Lille want to pay off Luis Campos' contract, it does need to be said that Maurice is regarded as one of the very best heads of recruitment in European football What really sticks out is that, according to L'Equipe, we made a play for Maurice last summer that included a considerable wage hike, only for Jean-Michel Aulas to say he was so much better off staying at Lyon where he had free reign...only to turn around and bring in Juninho as technical director, causing a lot of butting of heads in the recruitment department that led to Maurice taking the job at Rennes You only have to look at some of the players Maurice uncovered that Lyon picked up for peanuts before you realise he could have been ideal for us Tanguy Ndombele (obviously) Lucas Tousart Ferland Mendy Maxwell Cornet Add to that how Lyon's youth team produced the likes of Nabil Fekir, Alexandre Lacazette and Houssem Aouar, if we managed to bring in Maurice last summer we could already have begun reshaping our squad
