He might indeed. And with good reason. Hey Nineteen: I was going to stop at the one Steely Dan track, but I came across a comment from YT which was: "Steely Dan is scientifically proven to make you 17.86% cooler just by listening to it."
Skank holiday Monday on BBC radio 6 music some of my own favourites (lovely ending listen right through) (warning not PC)
Just looked up the details on Wiki: From a book called Naked Lunch by William S Burroughs "Fans of Beat Generation literature, Donald ***en and Walter Becker named the band Steely Dan after a "revolutionary" steam-powered dildo mentioned in the novel." And I've just read that sixties band Soft Machine ( "the group became one of the first British psychedelic acts and later moved into progressive and jazz-rock") took their name from a Burroughs book of that title.
I've always liked Ian McNabb's stuff with the Icicle Works and solo but I had no idea this with REM's Peter Buck even existed, that's why I love youtube..
I don't think I have come across any other band from that era who get cited as being influential as "Soft Machine". They have an almost legendary status but always seem to be more read about that heard. Steely Dan are almost in the same category. Not heard a great deal of their work yet I think ***en and Becker's tunes get covered a surprising number of times by jazz musicians - many of whom have also appeared on their albums. "Aja" always gets excellent reviews.
I've posted a few Ash tunes before but not this one which I think is so catchy And the alliteration continues with this 2018 beauty
