Boris Johnson Discharged From Hospital Taking their lead from Matt Hancock on not wasting NHS resources, doctors at St Thomas' Hospital have discharged Boris Johnson in the most appropriate manner. There was an orderly and evenly spaced queue to witness the successful discharge, with much clapping and cheering as the prime minister left the hospital .....
In particular, nurses Jenny from NZ, and Luis from Portugal. Worth noting. Is there a faint hope that the PM had an epiphany on the NHS, and perhaps immigration, while in his hospital bed?
It occurs to me that Covid-19 is an example of Darwinian evolution in action. People who simply refuse to believe that Covid-19 will affect them are more likely to contract the illness/become infected. The only problem is that this blind ignorance/faith may not result in the specific individual being removed from the gene pool, they may simply become infected, and then pass the infection on to others.
.....or maybe, just maybe, they will reintroduce the nurses' bursary and we will start training our own people again - rather than poaching other countries' nurses?
The hallmark BBC science series Horizon takes a detailed look at Covid-19, Part 1: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000h3nm/horizon-2020-coronavirus-special-part-1
Interesting point. To follow your train of thought, I'm going to be cynical here and suggest that people, such as the blind ignorant, may well infect other like-minded blind ignorant people. Death is a sad thing, but if people don't take the proper measures, against all good advice, what are we to do?
Yes, I read this earlier. Of all the more celebrated people who have died recently, Tim's death made me involuntarily go "Aw no". Deservedly, a loved person by many, Of which he was constantly surprised when he was occasionally informed. I have never been able to pin down what was so nice about TBT. He was funny, intelligent, generous in his praise of others. Overly modest in his own talents. And just a thoroughly nice bloke. As a BBC Radio 4 listener for decades, I can tell you that whenever he featured on a programme, he added greatly to it. From I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again to especially I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, and everything in between. He's made me chuckle more than most.
Replying to my own thread here. Basically because, having watched it, I would suggest that if you want to be massively informed - bullshit free - on Covid-19, then watch this programme. First of two. One hour long. You can stomach an hour to be better informed.
I know this isn’t the music thread, but I’m sticking it here anyway. This is a couple of years old but sums things up beautifully. Should be the new national anthem:
I have long thought that grants should be a used to direct people towards ‘useful’ subjects. Obviously everyone is different, but if you are suited to a couple of subjects but it may help decision making if one has a full grant and one will leave you with a debt. Even before Covid-19 appeared I thought it was crazy that training of nurses and related medical sciences wasn’t pushed more. Full grant but you have to stay in the NHS for X years.
This is astonishingly beautiful. If the classics isn't your thing, at least listen from 18.30 through to the end. Andrea Bocelli: Music For Hope - Live From Duomo di Milano ...... Bocelli said: “I will cherish the emotion of this unprecedented and profound experience, of this Holy Easter which this emergency has made painful, but at the same time even more fruitful, one that will stay among my dearest memories of all time.” The Andrea Bocelli Foundation has started a fundraiser to help hospitals purchase the necessary instruments and equipment to protect their medical staff during the Covid-19 pandemic.
He wouldn’t have been on an ECMO as he wouldn’t be out by now, but that’s a very serious indication as a “just in case”.
