Yes, I find that a little odd too. If there is hard evidence to prove that China's official figures are false, then fine. But let's not invent consipracy where there may not be any.

This started in Wuhan in 2019. I don't care about the other figures as much. We've seen the spread. They did nothing for weeks. And you believe they suddenly got a lid on it and stopped it. Hmmmm, naive or maybe you just want to believe that. Fair play to you, but I'm fully expecting the next explosion of events.
They instituted a lockdown far more severe than that instituted anywhere else. They had the shortest list of essential businesses, individuals outside their homes were temp checked constantly and tracked. Anyone purchasing cold and flu medication was reported to the authorities; I think it's quite possible China's numbers are under-reported, but fractionally so.
My question would be why only mistrust China? Others are clearly dodgy IMO. Maybe some of them are taking more notice of the fact that people are dying with it rather than everyone is dying of it?
This "dying with it rather than dying from it" argument is, quite frankly, complete nonsense. The number of people who died in New York this month exceeded the normal death rate by more than 5000: And that's with fewer deaths by accidents, etc as there are fewer people moving outside their homes. People who would otherwise not be dying are dying in very large numbers.

Everyone is bracing for the economic effect, and some countries will be putting that in front of the safety of citizens.
There are bound to be all sorts of statistical anomalies in the way different countries are compiling and reporting their stats. That doesn't automatically amount to deliberate dishonesty, which is what China is being accused of. I just wonder if there's an agenda behind the cynicism about reports from China, and if so who is driving it. We know Trump has made a point of calling this thing the Chinese Virus, in order to deflect attention away from his own administration's failings. Not saying the Chinese are necessarily being entirely honest either, but there seems to be a willingness to junk their figures which may be allied to blaming them for the whole thing in the first place.
That is where comparing all deaths occurring to baseline, rather than counting COVID deaths exclusively, is useful. Means you aren't missing cases where people died before testing positive. Every developed country keeps detailed records of deaths, and what has become clear is that the spike in deaths greatly exceeds the number of confirmed COVID deaths. In other words, it's significantly more deadly than the official numbers suggest.

This originated from China. It stems from the ill treatment of animals. Its the China-Virus. And the fact they are celebrating the all clear while others die of it, well that's just adding fuel to the flames. I'd personally hold WHO & China to account over this. I certainly won't be forgetting how this started & how it was covered up.
Bit early to say who should be held to account imo. I'm not rushing to judge anybody. I doubt Trump will be emerging blameless, but I haven't accused him of anything other than deflection, which you'd have to agree is pretty blatant. What's your beef with the WHO btw?
Just had a call from my mate. He said he bought a world map and told his wife: “throw this dart and wherever it lands I’m taking you for a holiday when this pandemic is over”. Turns out they’re spending two weeks behind the fridge.
I always try to keep an open mind about stuff, until the evidence (not conspiracy theories or hunches or 'because it is China and we can't trust them') is too strong to ignore. That way you don't go off down a blind alley. You will always find stats to back up any theory. Just IMO
