The fact that government representatives keep repeating that they've followed medical advice at all times makes me suspicious. They protest too much. Why does the advice seem to be so inconsistent? I suspect that the advisers are responding to pressure from the government.

It’s an easy defence if it all goes tits up (or more so). Blame the science bods, protect the politicians. They’ve either been too dim or too lazy to question the assumptions of a fairly limited range of experts from a few fields.

The government might be pressurising the advisers, but the scientific advice is genuinely not consistent because there is still a lack of evidence, and the government still needs to set the priority. It’s chosen the protect the NHS, presumably because the analysis of not doing this was so terrifying as to make recession, or even depression, an acceptable alternative.

That's not really what we are talking about. I said the PM can save lives as well as cause deaths. that would surely be correct?

Spot on. Think of those people that live in a bedsit in London with little to no friends. I can see a lot of depression during and after this.

Spot on. I alluded to this yesterday but it seemed to have fallen on deaf ears.
Starmer and co have criticised too quickly and should have waited like the sensible politicians.
Whatever, the government is in a lose/lose situation. You will get the usual mob saying they didn't act quickly enough and the supporters saying they did. Powis and co have said the government has adapted quickly and listened to the medical/scientific bods. You tell that to the tw2ts that enjoyed seeing the PM ill and they won't believe it.
I would probably say that all countries have made a few mistakes due to the severity of the virus but as you said that will come out at a later date.

What's your guess on when the lockdown ends? Trump wants to relax restrictions on 1st May, which would be a bold move. I'm guessing end of May here.

I honestly dont think Starmer has spoken too soon. He like everyone has the right to ask questions, scrutinise decisions, praise or criticise as he sees fit.

He was pretty scathing about Hancock telling NHS staff that they were over-using PPE. Rightly so.

I don’t think it will end in a single decision, I’d guess another 3 weeks from now for some businesses to reopen, but not pubs/restaurants. Those who can work from home will be asked to continue to, we will all be begged to maintain the 2 metre distance. Those ‘at risk’ will be asked to self isolate for months, but even then there will be ‘unexpected’ deaths and gnashing of teeth, because the government daren’t tell all those who are at risk that they are. Whitty, Hancock and Johnson are white men of similar age who have had the virus, two just stayed at home for a week, the other end up in intensive care and might not be back at work for a month. One obvious difference between them, which we never talk about. And if we did the majority of the population would be self isolating.
