So it goes up to 12?!? I reckon they might become market leaders with that strategy. My old landlord in Eastbourne is a bespoke guitar maker who has made guitars for Snow Patrol, Squeeze, the Guillemots, the Kooks and the Libertines amongst others. His dining table was made from guitar bodies (but I imagine he has taken a serious haircut on his Buy-to-Let portfolio).
Just got on to this thread. My lad (16) goes to Richard Silvester ([email protected], www.rjsmusic.info). Been going for about 2 years and passed up to Grade 6. He does acoustic and electric guitar and his wife does vocal coaching. They lives in Lindengate Ave, off Leads Road.
My gretsch is the cheaper 5120 which is a hell of a lot cheaper then the famous 6120, I agree the action is a little on the high side. My intentions for this guitar is to mod it, with new PuPs, Bridge, and maybe tuners, I,m still researching what can be done to these guitars, to get them closer to a 6120. BTW I own an amplifier that goes up to 12, for your Yahama ...
Well I only own a custom acoustic (woeful action) and a vinatge v100 electric, preferred it to the eipis when trying them out. Only started a year ago but already got my next pruchase of a epi ej200 in the wings. As for learning the following link is to a guy who's a bit of a happy chappy but he likes to go about learning in the way midlands described earlier, penatonics and using your ears and all that. It's all free as well. http://www.justinguitar.com/
I play through a Marshall that's then run into a 500w PA, which goes all the way up to ouch........ If that doesn't annoy the neighbours enough, I've got a digital drum kit plugged into it too. Despite being disappointed with the Gretch, I still want one, it's a thing of beauty, I might even get this one as a piece of art and just hang it one the wall. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Gretsch-6120S...503680&cguid=d14182b81280a0e201a69dd6fff5a3d7
I don't have a picture of my collection but I have a Gibson SG Special in ebony, an Epiphone dot in sunburst, a Takamine EG523 and a Tanglewood TW55.
Good thread, like has been mentioned already! I may or may not be getting lessons myself soon, I am teaching myself but it's nice to hear other peoples opinions. Got a Fender Squier acoustic, nice cheap guitar off of Ebay for 50quid, recommend it to anybody as a first time guitar.
Half a kilowatt !!! I,m glad I,m not your neighbour lol. I run via a Pod X3 Pro into a modest 100 watt Pa, and thats plenty loud enough for home use. I agree about he Gretsch being a thing of beauty, If you look about on the web, some lads have done amazing custom things with them.
A flying V ukulele , I recon George Formby would have loved singing "with me little stick of Blackpool rock" with one of those...
Turned out nice again....... I actually thought that was a joke, but having checked, I see they really do make flying v ukelele's http://www.musicroom.com/se/ID_No/0412704/details.html?kbid=1582
I played one round the campfire last year at a VW rally and played an impromptu solo to Freebird on it. Wasnt quite note for note mind but I gave it a good go!
I love playing that freebird solo! What's everyones favourite song to play? Mine has to be metallicas master of puppets due to the sheer technicality and endurance, it's so fast and you never get even a second long break for the 8 minutes! The second solo is just immense too
