Some of the best fish and chips I ever had was halibut in Alaska. Not an ale drinker but Alaska Kölsch seemed to wash it down ok.
I had halibut and chips in Tofino (west side of Vancouver Island) they were very good. When I think about it I've had fish and chips in Tofino, BC and St. Johns, Newfoundland. That's about as far west and far east as you can go in North America.
Yep that but some mushy peas with the curry replaced with gravy on top of the chips and peas. Bloody heaven. Ohh and Cod not haddock. I'm ready for the fallout
I prefer if fresh on a plate . Wrapped up and taken home leaves it soggy ! Ok if you like it soggy I suppose
Some of the Friaries from the same chain are now open - Chants, Endike and is there another? Their town store remains closed down Whitefriargate.
Just had ours from The Frying Farmer at Aldbrough, it was ****ing chaos outside, no one knew where to stand, turned out that people waiting for their order were to stand at one side of the shop, and those that were waiting to order at the other, but there was absolutely no signage at all, just chalk lines 6’ apart on the pavement. At one point he shouted outside that if people didn’t stand 6’ apart that he’d get closed, the bloke was full on stressed but it really was his own fault as the queueing system was about as clear as mud, and there was only half a dozen customers, **** knows what it’ll be like if it gets busy! To add insult to injury, and I dunno if Geoff Bielby still has any involvement in the place, the haddock and chips were ****ing rank, batter almost burnt on the outside yet soggy on the inside, and the chips looked as if they’d been refried from lunchtime, some where almost black, which is weird because it’s been open since 11am and I went at 4pm. It’s a real shame as it was spot on when it first opened, better than Whiteheads at Hornsea, but the place seems to have gone right down the ****ter unfortunately. I won’t be returning any time soon!
I'm surprised they were allowed to open for walk up purchases to be fair. It sounds like the exact opposite of what most people are aiming to do, i.e. not putting themselves and their families at risk. I assume it was all card payments at least.
There are lots of question over it to be fair if you don't take it home. How do you eat it without it still being in the packaging, How do you wash your hands after handling the packaging, but before you eat it. Its possible to do it safely I guess but doubt many do. Shame it was **** as well. Maybe the frier was feeling poorly
The fish and chip shop was open in Howden today.... slowed right down on my bike as I passed it 'the aroma' and placed fish and chips top of my list as my first eat out when this is all over...
