Have they changed the way they announce this on a daily basis? It used to be tally'd together and given as a U.K figure but seems to be devolved now too!! That is an extremely high and worrying figure for England though.

The England figure always comes out a bit earlier, they'll announce the full UK numbers a bit later as normal.

It's not good, but as I understand it, it includes a bit of a catch up from the weekend.

I suspect we'll see a rise in numbers this week, a drop off over the weekend, with what looks like a big rise in the middle of the week after, which should then be followed by a drop.

If you're going to make the effort to go t'seaside, would you go to Withernsea?

"A family of five from Leeds drove more than 70 miles to East Yorkshire during the coronavirus lockdown to have an ice cream and a swim at Withernsea."

Yes,the figures up here have jumped a bit and that was Sturgeon's explanation too.We always say we are only numbers and that has become even more apparent in the last 4 or 5 weeks...

We are, but sometimes it touches you personally, and then at least one of those numbers has far more meaning. :emoticon-0101-sadsm

On the plus side, even with that apparent spike, the rate of increase per day is showing a downward trend since around the 25/3.

    Seems a nice chap...

A man who deliberately coughed on two police officers during the coronavirus lockdown has been jailed.

Michael Gray, 41, was sentenced to 19 weeks in prison after he admitted assaulting an emergency services worker and using threatening words and behaviour.

Two patrol officers had approached the defendant in Brixton last Thursday as he appeared to be harassing three women.

When they checked his details, they found he was wanted on warrant for failing to appear in court.

On his arrest, Gray intentionally coughed towards the officers and, while in custody, threatened to spit at them.

He stated that he hoped to infect them with COVID-19 so that they would pass it on to their children.

At a hearing before Croydon magistrates, Gray was given eight weeks for the assault on police officers and 11 weeks for a separate drug driving offence.
