Look all three have done great things for the club and i cant be arsed to take sides they all need to understand they are nothing without our support and hard earned cash going through turnstiles buying the merchandise and thier biographies etc. They need to drop there egos on the doorstep and get on with wanting the best for us and the club they have all done okay out of the game including Stelling. We still continued to follow the Saints in spite of Tiss retiring 'by the way thanks for the memories 'he will always be a special guy to us. But whats important now is our future and that lies with the Don 'by the way thanks for saving us from oblivion ' now lets all get behind Nige show some dignity and get promoted.
Of course Le Tiss and Lawrie Mac et al are legends. But I'm amused by the inclusion of Terry Paine. I grew up watching him, and loved the guy. Lawrie Mac came on the scene and Terry was bags packed and off to Hereford. If you want to read about a ruthless individual running SFC, you only need read the excellent "Diary of a Season" by The Big Man. I think Lawrie would have loved to have worked with a board with the ambition of NC, and maybe that is his problem. I don't care about the tickets debate. Le Tissier will always be in the Great Saints gallery along with Lawrie Mac, Paine and even the greatest of all Saint Mick! But I look at what NC has done and it is remarkable. You do not get people to work for you like that if the image that some want to paint of him were true. Just as Lawrie came in and cleared out the drinking culture and player power that led to our most successful period to date, Cortese has come into a splintered club and built something special. There will be casualties, and those who don't share the vision are outside of the tent and don't like it. It ain't personal, it's only business. And you know what Mattie and Lawrie we love it.
Just one thing to say 1) MLT turns back on club or 2) NC turns his back on the club. One would be sad and one could be a disaster.
I really like Jeff Stelling and Soccer Saturday, however I thought his rant on Saturday was bang out of order and just **** stirring. It's got sweet FA to do with him and there was no need to do what he did. Now everyone on here is voicing opinions about MLT and NC, but the only thing we should be doing is telling Stelling to waves his Monkey hanging arms in the air when Hartlepool score, and leave us alone.
Totally agree. But were you just getting up or coming in at this time. If the latter I'm telling your mum!
This is going to piss you off, but by reading this sentence, I would guess you are about 15. 1. 5 years ago you would have been 10 and didn't appreciate how **** things were at our club 2. you actually typed "or so we're lead to believe" at the end of a sentence slagging off NC..... OMG oyu've heard something so it must be true??? FFS. I'm not being ageist, but that is such an immature sentence that smacks of lack of understanding or depth about where our club was a few years back. If you are not 15, then it is an even more ridiculous statement.
Us old'ens don't need as much sleep so tend to start the day with a little read and the odd debate, and I am allowed to stay up very late if I want to
When I attended a Starting a Business course the first thing drummed into us was "NO MATES RATES". Maybe the Don had the same advisor, and if so he has certainly made a better fist of it than me, but then I never had a herd of horses and a chain saw.
I totally agree with both of you second stain & Fran. Everybody should drop all this bullsh!t of MLT says this, NC says that. At the end of the day its just petty meaningless rubbish that could get stuck in the wheel of our beautiful bus and cause a puncture. And god forbid let Pompeys dustbin lorry over take us. 'Get on the bus'. 'Belt up!'. 'Sit back'. Then enjoy whats turning out to be the best bus ride any saints fan could ever wish to go on.
Separate issue: bring back the bus, bring back the building. Some spoilsport (possibly his wife) has told NA to stop using our favourite expressions. He started correcting himself preseason and now never says either.
I get the impression that Jeff Stelling is not terribly impressed with our Nicola and his insistence on no hangers on. What Jeff stelling seems to forget is Nicola is not saying one rule for one and one rule for another. He too buys his own ticket to games. I really don't know why Matty has a problem with this either. He has to remember that technically he was in competition with Nicola for the Chairman's job not too long ago. He lost the chance by his comrades dillydallying at the last hurdle. Perhaps that is what is really rankling him?
I'm not saying that NC didn't say those things, but it wasn't a straight forward question and answer. The journalist wrote a comment about MLT and McMenemy and Nicola made a general statement about no freebies. Note to Nicola..if you didn't name names, don't trust The Sun. It's very easy to interview someone and then insert your own comments and change the context of statement.
Like somebody said on here earlier about their dad, there are a few thousand fans that have paid good money for 20-30 years to watch saints, have travelled all over the country to support their team, all the while losing money and not getting a great deal back, especially in the dark days! on the other hand you've got a club legend, who although he is a god and saved us many times he got paid well for doing what was his job,he also got a testimonial, has written a book and has got his current employment from what he done with the saints, now to me that is someone who has got alot out of the club. Now who do you think is more deserving of free tickets on the odd occasion? i'm sorry Matt but although you are a legend and we love you you should just shut the hell up and pay what every other person has got to pay to watch the team that you often say you love! I thought you would of loved to help contribute to the clubs finances to make us better!
The day of the legends match we went into the shop to the guy who prints the shirts for the match and asked him if he had printed one for Le Tissier. He told us that the in the top end of the club, particularly Cortese, there were mixed opinions of Le Tissier following his period of exclusivity that didn't materialise, 21 days that Cortese could have had extra to rebuild the club. Not that this is my view or anything, just what we were told. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the season tickets however but if Le Tissier was on better terms with Nicola it might not be a problem.
im actually a college student whose been a passionate, bloody passionate fan since I was 9 so I do understand how bad it was all those years ago
I have always considered that Cortese has just been trying to run the club on a proper business footing, and in that he has succeeded brilliantly. There is only one nagging doubt that there is something personal causing a problem here, and that is the absence of MLT on those huge posters at the stadium celebrating the 125 years of the club. His exclusion must have been a decision not an oversight and that certainly isn't any business justification. I just wish at this time if so much joy otherwise, that they would either sort their differences or maintain a dignified silence about it.
Always have to be careful with gossip. I tell you want I think, then you tell the next person what you heard, and before long it's engraved in stone. I think (think mind you) that we have two strong personalities who have both saved this club in different ways, but one of them can get us back to the Premiership. At least, Nicola isn't bland..he has entertainment value and is damn good at his job.
