Its consistent with your thoughts on the Prem though - riven with self interest and total humbug. I'm waiting for the illiterate meme from Kustard showing a dying D-day veteran turned away from the last respirator in Britain under the headline 'But Liverpool thought it was more important to finish the league '.
I did say it was well and truly tongue in cheek. I honestly care less with every passing day hence the jokes now. I doubt there's ever been any self-interest even when I did give a ****. I've said all along "all or nothing". And I still maintain that's the fairest way forward. I've yet to hear a reasonable argument against that. It would be novel to hear a Livpl fan talk about other clubs having the chance to win something... and I don't mean the cursory mention of the relegations and CL spots just to justify completing the league. I mean actual competitions where other clubs have the chance of winning silverware also.
Not true. I would like to see the FA cup played to completion to maintain its integrity, just like it was in 89 ( like the league). And I'd love to see wolves win the Europy, just in case City weasel out of a ban and fifth ace isnt enough. And city will never have a better shot at the CL, Bayern notwithstanding. That said, no club in any competition is as far in the lead as liverpool are, hence why most people use it as an example, and a lot of people are so desperate to see it taken from them.
You do have to feel for the RS. After 30 years in the doldrums they have their first premiership title at their mercy with a 99.99% chance of winning it. And when they are ready to lift it literally and parade it ... I almost could cry and stay awake at the unfairness of it all. Almost.
What's wrong with premiership footballers? One week of their wages would have helped pay for their club's employed staff such as security, ground maintenance, ticketing and catering etc for a few weeks. This one week would not make a dent in their huge wages and not come within the 20% cut suffered by most employees in the country. If they dont help and refuse to take a cut they would have confirmed their selfishness. Are they one of the few groups not affected at all financially by this pandemic? Will the greed of these people led by Gordon Taylor shine through?
Yeh but Raheem Sterling is tweeting videos telling everyone to stay at home. That surely shows he cares!
Some twisted idea that the season being voided is somehow sweet justice for the teams who missed out on europe due to heysel. Spuds rival watch thread. where he lives.
There will need to be some form of social distancing continuing to the end of December at least according to the Chief Medical Officer today. What form this will take is difficult to work out atm. But those including some in the premier league who think that they can play the remaining matches in June or July are overly optimistic. Top priority will be shops big and small, then restaurants, then work in offices. After the debacle of Cheltenham and the CL match against Atletico which really added to the transmission it would be unrealistic for football to be given priority. Would the government sanction football matches even behind closed doors involving around 400 players (20 squads) and hundreds of coaches in a period of a few weeks? After the deserved criticism the government received for Cheltenham and the CL match, they would not allow it if there is still a requirement for some form of social distancing. Those who say that it is imperative that the premier league finishes the season are wrong if it means it puts even one more life at risk. Football is not that important.
Dunno, they've more or less as good a chance as any. Liverpool look vulnerable, although if this is their bad patch then they are still favourites. City, look like they're crumbling. Aguero visibly aged and more prone to injuries, Jesus is just middle of the road as his cover and after that, who they got? Their defence isn't up to much either. Chelsea, no way on earth good enough, not even close. Arsenal, ditto above. Everton, they look decent but losing so convincingly to Saints gives an indication of them being still not the full package. ****e keeper. United got a decent squad. Should challenge but won't, because they don't think we actually need to do that as top four is enough, yay. Which leaves Spurs. In with a shout for me.
