At almost 50, add that to the list of things that can get me, and not near the top either. :D

also tell that to the people who die on stretchers waiting when there is no pandemic or die on waiting lists<ok>

You are missing the point ... this crisis has certainly exposed years and years of chronic underfunding ... but that doesn't render it any less cataclysmic in the here and now ... and many of us were already aware of the underfunding ... but are not smugly glorifying in self righteous affirmation as death numbers rise...

You sure it wasn't the truck drivers and ship's captains not washing properly? ... one thing for sure, the NHS staff will certainly have saved more lives directly ... <ok>

    " Scammed "
    By what exactly ?
Are you saying that these health care systems that are being completely overwhelmed is fake news ?
You're saying that all these Doctors that are dying dealing with it are made up figures ?
What about the 3.3 million people that have lost their jobs in the USA IS THAT a Con or incorrect ?
Over 600,000 here have gone onto UC ! Another lie ?
What about the Hollocaust ?? Another Con ?
What else have we been conned about ?
Did England win the 1966 WC ?

yeah its not like the food on trucks ends up in our mouths or anything. Totally indirect, totally. <laugh>

I'm not even arguing with you, just poking holes in what I find to be awfully cringy. Most people appreciate those who help them, unless you live in some alternate world? Most people would tell you they (NHS) do a hard job that is not so rewarding and do appreciate it (unless you are a parasite consultant - they DRAIN the NHS of money and can be found golfing when you need them)

To be fair regardless of funding this crisis would have overwhelmed the NHS and required a huge amount of extra resource.

We are having to put up multiple new temporary hospitals across the country with thousands of extra intensive care beds, potentially tens of thousands of ventilators etc...

In non-pandemic times it would be a complete waste to be funding this stuff.

Not that I’m saying the nhs isn’t underfunded. But just that not being prepared for this situation isn’t a sign of underfunding.

I've no doubt it would strain but there seems to be a shambolic organisation of getting PPE to frontline staff .

I agree that there is no way we could ever justify having the NHS permanently set up to deal with a pandemic like this. However, going forward I would be happy to pay a lot more tax to have the NHS set up to deal with a typical bad winter rather than being stretched every winter - though nothing like to the extent of what we are experiencing now. If we had had the resources to comfortably deal with a bad winter then it wouldn't have been enough to cope with this pandemic but it would have been enough to cope better. It would also mean that in normal times we would not be kicking people out of hospital to free up beds before it was ideally time to send them home, something that does happen a lot already.

I was lucky enough to see 2 consultants through BUPA when I was being diagnosed with needing heart bypass surgery and also calcific tendonitis back in 2017 ... got made redundant during the treatments and had to inform them that I might not have the Bupa cover to conclusion ... both told me not to concern myself and that they would see me on the NHS if that happened ... neither went on the golf course as far as I'm aware ... I've continued seeing the cardiologist for the last 2 years on the NHS ... your stereotypes are very misplaced in my particular experience ... but don't let that deflect you from your generalisations <cheers>

We've been talking of this kind of thing at work today ( 2 metres apart you know :emoticon-0102-bigsm)
I'd be more than happy to pay 30% tax in return for a good health service and decent pension .

I'm with you ... always felt we should be able to choose how to direct our tax contribution and mine would go to health and education by choice ... certainly not to funding nuclear deterrents which, for me, is an immoral waste of money ... if any ****er starts firing nuclear weapons then this world is going to hell ... the end ... having nuclear capability ourselves won't save us <cheers>
