Can anybody tell me, was anybody at fault or was it just a well taken goal? Fans on Bristol City's forum are pointing the finger towards Basso for been off his line? I also heard Hobbs may have been at fault some how?
No doubt the second biggest bell cheese on here ( Tigersteve ) will be on before long slagging Hobbs off . I didn't go to the game so can't comment . He probably never either but will still pass judgement . He's a tool and a half .
Basso said after the game that due to a bit of cramp in his legs he couldn't jump as high as normal. He said he was happy enough with his positioning though.
A mate at the game said it was a well taken goal by Pitman. He said the defence had another good game with Hobbs continuing to improve.
need to see it again, looked as tho the guy got in front of rosenoir, who didnt really make a challenge..but he may have been covering, i was checking the scores on my phone at the time, so only half saw it.
Seen the highlights of the game today, looks like Basso made several superb saves throughout the game and I really like and rate him but.... If he'd stood flat on his goal line he would have caught the header with ease. Really he should not have been about 4 yards off his line when a hopeful ball gets punted forward from the half way line. Fine margin in this league, this was the difference between a point and all 3. Have to say that maybe Chester should have been on the goal scorer as appose to Rosenior getting dragged into the middle from his full back position. It was a very soft goal to gift them really. It was hardly a really well crafted or well created build up play to the goal was it? Gutted !!! Had we hung on for 11 more minutes we would still be commanding a play off spot, hopefully we will get back there after Tuesday night and then concrete our place within the top 6 for the remainder of the season.
Stuart Elliott scored a couple of goals of the same type ie. out-jumped a defender and looped it in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOcgRPkV1xE&feature=player_embedded#! go to 5mins 29secs
Nah, thats doing a misjustice to Elliott, the goal was crap and was no more as hopeful as the long ball thrown to the edge of our box. Now, Stuart Elliott, he could out-jump anybody in the air and beat the keeper who was properly positioned on his line. Elliott is one of the best header-ers of the ball I've ever seen, he just seemed to hang in the air for ages. Great player, City Leg-End in my book, now working in Hull as a Pastor.
Basso was certainly at fault. There is absolutely now way a goalkeeper should be that far off his line when there is no threat. He got caught out with a real sucker goal.
the officials were definately at fault. Considering some of the lesser challenges than the foul on Cairney leading to the goal that were given against City throughout the game, the cross should never have been delivered. Apart from that, an excellent goal of similar stature to a similar one scored by Ben Burgess a few seasons ago in a 1 - 0 win against Millwall at the Circle
Yes just watched it, 5 yards out and expecting the defenders to deal with it; neither defending the goal line or getting involved.
unless you were there you would not have seen the injustice of the Cairney foul in the lead up to the cross which went unpunished. As a result, the unchallenged cross and header from nothing caught everyone out and subsequently left us exposed. Everyone in the ground witnessed it apart from David Burns BA (Hons) it seems. Whether a draw was a fair result or not is a different issue but apart from the chance out of the blue, we looked fairly secure for the win.
I'll be watching it back on Tigers Player to check on the foul but the foul a side I dont see how a long ball should catch our defenders out, the ball came from the half way line and was put in with a header from outside the box. None of the defenders were tight enough and Basso yards off his line regardless of the foul on Cairney. It should be known in this game you cannot rely on the officials to spot a foul, you must play to the whistle.
It is easy to be critical of the keepers position but you would have been equally critical if the ball had cleared the defenders and left a one on one and Basso did not get the ball because he was on his line. The fact is the header was in the perfect position slightly higher and it would have hit the bar or gone over and a little lower and he waould have caught it. It was just one of those things and we should not be looking for scapegoats which is what the original post was looking for.
