Local council cutting their bin collections to only kitchen waste and non-recyclable rubbish.

Highlight of yesterday.....my sons family (all four of them) standing 20 foot away from the front door singing happy birthday to me whilst I'd been in a queue on the phone for 25 minutes.....reality is far stranger than fiction that's for sure......

I thought it was warm yesterday was that all the cake candles then plym? Happy Birthday to you for yesterday. I'm not singing it as I'd have to wash my hands if I did.

Certainly no cake....Mrs Plym did me a nice fry-up and that under the present circumstances was it.

Been 5 consecutive days of wall to wall sunshine this week....but rather hard to enjoy it really.

Being stuck at home everyday you tend to forget what day it is....everyday is the same as the day before and you know that tomorrow will be the same.

Police are getting a lambasting in the paper today for over officious enforcement of the stay at home rules.

There's a picture of a large beach empty apart from four figures, one of whom is a police woman challenging another woman sitting alone with no-one within 100 metres, presumably because we required to suffer in ugly places rather beautiful ones. Derbyshire Police have been criticized by the IOPC for using a drone to film people walking in literally acres of empty space in the Peaks and then publishing the results in "shame" videos on social media. The National Police Chiefs Council is apparently in discussion with the mobile phone providers to allow use of tracking data to catch those taking their dogs out twice a day rather than once. Our own dear Devon & Cornwall Police are also mentioned for their stop & search road blocks to catch motorists misusing their own cars and the Dartmoor Park Authority is now complaining that people are parking on the roads after they closed the car parks for some unfathomable reason.

I'm all for people being sensible in staying away from each other but a bit of common sense is needed here.

Whilst I agree that on face value some of that would look odd and over the top there is a bigger picture. Left to their own devices last weekend what happened? They filled up the country side and beaches in a lot of areas despite being told to isolate and that there was a killer virus on the loose. Get over officious and they stay away in their droves. Well now which one worked?

There is a park outside my house. The footfall this week has increased 10 fold and that includes extra dog walkers. I have watched groups of them swap stories in the middle of the park and families mixing with other families almost all the time. Left to themselves people are stupid. This isn't one of those it couldn't happen to me things is it.

    Heard you first time sensible....:D.

We try to fit in a walk each day.....and we stick to the guidelines of walking to are nearest open park.

It can turn into a game of chess....for instance.

1.....A couple are coming towards you on the same path.....who make a slight detour first.

2.....You can quite easily zig-zag down the road...crossing over to the other side every 100 yards or so when someone appears on the same side.

3.....Someone can come out of their driveway hidden by a fence or hedge....or from a side road.....and you have this embarrassing moment when you obviously get to close to each other.

4.....Teenagers/ young people can be so busy at times talking or mobile glued and take no notice of you and you have to make a hasty change of direction.

5.....Joggers seem to just plough straight on....assuming that because they're passing you at speed it doesn't matter about keeping their distance.

6.....Then there are certain people who must have just arrived from another planet....who just walk straight on regardless that you exist and come directly into your space....I could name these types but political correctness forbids me.

7.....Then there is the married couple with their young child/children....who are allowed to power towards you on their bike/bikes and the parents do not bother to tell them to be careful where they're going....I assume the parents expect you to scurry to one side to allow little Ethel/Freddie the right of way.

8.....Then there is the dog walker who lets their dog come up to you and jump up at you....which in normal times I don't mind stroking a friendly dog.....but that dog has been in physical contact with its owner and you don't need it to be all over you at a time like this.....owners don't seem to see that could be a problem of passing on a possible virus.

9.....You eventually get back home a nervous wreck and hope that you have survived any dangerous contact.

I obviously got the hic-cups previously.....................

It would seem the same game of musical chairs is played wherever you are in the land then Plym. I can relate to all of the above. The one thing I would add though is dog owners seem to think their mutt can do what it likes where it likes whatever the circumstances at the time. Mostly you waste your breath if you challenge them for any of it.

Little Fido can kill as easily as his master......remember this virus crossed over from the animal kingdom originally.

Derbyshire police have now poured black dye into the Blue Lagoon beauy spot and unofficial swimming lake near Buxton.

    What are they thinking of?

Not many takers for a quick swim in late March I would think.....unless you wanted to get away from the hailstone showers we've had today.

Heavy handed council officials and police are said to be instructing convenience stores not to display and sell Easter Eggs as they are not essential items.

    The BBC reports:

The Association of Convenience Stores (ACS) blamed “overzealous enforcement and a misreading of the rules”.

It has told shopkeepers to carry on selling a full range of goods.

“The government have defined which stores can remain open, and that includes convenience stores, including newsagents and off-licences,” said ACS chief executive James Lowman.

“There is no government definition of which products can be sold within those stores.

“In the cases where officers have challenged retailers and shoppers in this way, it’s brought confusion, distracted retailers in the busiest weeks of their lives and increased the interactions between people at a time when the government is trying to minimise them.”

I went shopping today. Didn't hang around, kept my distance from other shoppers and store workers and used the gel on offer both in and out. Thought I'd tell you that before making the main point so that I won't get told off.

The main point is it was a supermarket which was quite well stocked. Nobody told me what I couldn't buy. Whilst there I picked up some bottles of lager, 4 bottles of wine (yes 4 notdistant and nobody said I couldn't), 2 packets of Jelly Babies and a couple of bars of chocolate. The majority of stuff was of course food items we needed but I wasn't challenged about these items and stopped by the "Fuzz" on the way there or back. I consider the bottles of wine to be essential and maybe the lager is a tad bit of a luxury. I cannot function without Jelly Babies. Chocolate is optional. If you go to a shop to get essentials and pick up a few non essentials then what exactly is the harm. You cannot get a delivery so there is no choice but to physically go. People were being well behaved except one bloke at the check out who decided to push his trolley up my rear end until I stared him out with a vicious look on my face and he backed off. No words were exchanged or needed to be. I got a letter from my GP today to say I'm at risk and should hibernate for the rest of the year and see nobody. This is the GP who cocked up my repeat prescription causing me to go to a Chemist twice for nothing. The same GP who still hasn't put the cock up right. I have just emailed the Practice to tell them they are not the most efficient in the World. Whilst I fully appreciate the sentiments behind all of the advice and stuff and am doing my best to follow it all they really need to wise up to what is feasible and not set standards that are impossible to follow or as in GP get their end right before advising me and causing me to break the rules they are setting down.

Ventured up to the pavement edge this morning with the only thing that the council dustbin collection will be collecting this week.....the kitchen waste bin.....it's still there uncollected this evening....hope no one trips over it in the dark.

Next week they will be collecting the non-recyclable rubbish and kitchen waste......in the meanwhile I will be storing mountains of plastic, tins.bottles, paper and garden waste for the unforeseeable future...... and with the council waste tips closed until when we don't know that's where it will stay....in my garden.

Best bet for that is to pop out after dark and deposit it on the doorstep of the local council office. Let them sort it out.

    Further to the above.

Just seen the councils big road sweeping lorry manoeuvre itself up our cul-de-sac with great difficulty....more than the usual number of cars parked here of course at the moment...so personally an amazing waste of resources at this difficult time.

Ok by all means sweep the main roads....but sodding around wasting their time in all the side roads at present is ridicules.....90% of the nations cars are parked at the moment....especially at 7.30am in the morning.

With the council only collecting kitchen waste weekly and the non-recyclable waste fortnightly....sweeping my cul-de-sac should be well down the priority list .....better spent collecting our plastic, tins, bottles, paper and garden waste now and again would be more worthwhile than sweeping my cul-de-sac.....the end result will be mountains of waste that are growing in peoples gardens.....and of course some of them will be dumping it in lanes and other country roads.

Also the garden waste collection is a paid for service, above and beyond your council tax....£60 a year and worth every penny of it.....saves going to the dump regularly and the possibility of damaging a tyre there....which has happened to me in the past......we will all be wanting refunds for a service that we are no longer getting.....but hey ho we're getting our cul-de-sac half swept for some unknown reason.
