Once they issue the antibody test that could be a game changer, as they can get a handle on the numbers who’ve either had no symptoms or mild unrecorded or untested symptoms, but have had patently the virus.

If that number is high, then that could drive the death rate right down, but also confirm the view that there’s already a larger community immunity than currently provable........or not.

Confirmation of immunity would allow life to get back to 90% normality with the vulnerable still self-isolating

That would be the ideal outcome, but it remains to be proved.

It would be greatly helped by the government following WHO advice to test and trace people

Yep, but that horse has now long since bolted.

The country is going to balk at what it sees in the coming 2/3 weeks I’m afraid. The die has already been cast due to previous inaction. Even today we’re seeing pics of crowded tubes and buses. London is patently ahead of the curve and around 2 weeks behind Italy. The rest of the nation is largely a further 2 weeks behind that imho, albeit the now extensive lockdown should spare most of the frozen north from the kind of peak we’re now destined to see in London.

Yeah - the problem is that there's no one-size-fits-all approach.
I could go out of my door and walk for hours without ever having to touch anything, or come within 10 feet of the handful of people I pass. The risk of contagion is negligible. This is in marked contrast to people who live in cities where some transmission is inevitable.
The biggest risk for people like me is going shopping, and this could be alleviated if there was a more co-ordinated effort to improve delivery services. Currently they can't keep up with the demand.

I’ve never booked one mate, anecdotal that comment, from the Mrs, who uses the delivery service round here regularly.

I've never used one either - I'd rather choose my own stuff than have someone do it for me. I'd consider it now - if it were a possibility.
Hopefully we learn something about contingency plans from this crisis - because emergency measures to help people avoid having to shop would go a long way to reducing the spread of the infection.

Just got back from Tesco Express.

There was a barrier at the door with a guy limiting the number of shoppers and giving hand wash.

Shop was almost empty. Plenty of food and toilet paper. Seems no one has been buying. Lots of stock expiring today, but new stock too.

    Good enforcement of 2m distancing.

Coronavirus deaths in Italy have apparently been significantly overestimated

Reminds me of Curb Your Enthusiasm where someone says their relative "died on 9/11" when they were in an unrelated traffic accident

On the other hand, London and New York do seem to be in trouble

Went to the shops for the first time in a while today

Things have changed a bit since last time where it was mass panic buying in Asda. Today I got there about 5pm on my bike and the queue to get inside was still going around the edge of maybe half the car park so I sacked it off and pedalled over to the small Tesco as I was only after a few bits

At the small Tesco there was a queue outside the doors of two people with a woman telling you when you could go inside, maximum of ten people inside at once, and there was yellow and black tape on the floor. Some guy either tried to ignore the queue or didn't notice it and tried to waltz straight in and was told in no uncertain terms to get in the queue. There wasn't as much stuff as normal, hardly any bread or beer, and only two big bottles of liquid detergent left which is one thing I was after, but they were much too big for what I needed so I just left it

Not in need of shopping yet, not even touched freezer stuff yet.

The mrs keeps calling into the local co-op on a almost daily basis for odd bits.

Had a Chinese last night; opted to avoid the bat ;)

I didn't really need anything substantial, got plenty of food, I just wanted Friday night beers and detergent, and combined the shopping trip with exercise on my bike, The roads are dead quiet now so cycling is actually fun and not a death run

Just get the bat and go down in a blaze of glory
