Fair enough! But if you do get to know more after Friday I'd be interested to hear about it. I also have an elderly neighbour who I'm likely to be shopping for soon.

This was an idea from a newspaper article today... maybe an idea for the second wave if it were to happen..

COULD this be a possible solution to social distancing and the panic buying in supermarkets? Every council in the UK issues each household with six months of tickets which allows them entry to any supermarket in that area on one day a week only. The ticket could be checked and stamped at the entrance (to ensure it is only used once). Essential items would be limited, the number of each item allowed dependent on the number of people in that household (printed on the ticket).

So whatever time of day you visited, you should still be able to find all you need. If you were shopping for someone else, they could simply give you their ticket. It would also deter people moving to other parts of the country to isolate themselves, as they would not be able to use the supermarkets there. A system like this should make it easier for supermarkets to manage stock and the numbers of people visiting their stores at any one time.

My wife - a teacher - found the "Parents convinced teachers must have superpowers to cope with this ****" hilarious. Can't link direct as the "****" gets replaced with "****"

The new curriculum was designed so that the same set of objectives in the likes of maths could be revisited again and again over the year so I doubt a child will miss something in a week and never be taught it again in their school life (and if they did, I’d be questioning the schemes the school were following).

I didn’t say they’d learn more. I said they’d get more out of it - maybe experience a different culture/cuisine, plenty of relaxation which will be good for their mental health, etc compared to a week on Percentages which should be revisited elsewhere anyway.

I wasn’t attacking schools or teachers. It’d be hypocritical if I did.

Unfortunately, travel companies penalise families (and teachers!) so if they can get a week elsewhere and the child is normally 100% in their school life, I see no harm. My opinion of course.

Another 28 people have died from coronavirus in England, according to the latest numbers from the NHS.

This brings the total number of deaths in the country to 414.

NHS England said the patients who died were aged between 47 and 93 years old.

All of the people, except the 47-year-old, had underlying health conditions.

The figure brings the total number of deaths in the UK to 468.

Earlier today, a further five were recorded in Wales, a further six in Scotland and two more in Northern Ireland.

Another case confirmed in Hull, making 2 in total.

How does that compare to the recent trend?
