Finally remembered one. Brilliant track, but didn't like any of his subsequent releases. Mind you, he did write "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" for Buddy Holly, my favourite ever artist.
    Must be the Sax :emoticon-0105-wink:

Do know it, and this track is almost tolerable.
I think the reason for my lack of liking the genre is the use of the "spoken voice" as opposed to the "singing voice". Always sounds discordant to me I'm afraid.
But then, I like Bob Dylan & Neil Young a lot !

OK, absolute last attempt then. I don't want to drift too far into politics, but what you think of the lyrics here will very much depend on whether you're closer to the Neil Young of Buffalo Springfield, or the current iteration, but it feels genuinely important, even if you hate it. This performance is absolutely magnetic and might well be as meaningful to a generation of kids today as Dylan going electric.

It might not admittedly - the zeitgeist moves on, some things get forgotten and others become more important with the benefit of hindsight, but whatever you think of it it's visually stunning and worth sticking with to the end.

Just to clarify a point, there is no style/genre of music I hate. I have preferences, even favourites at the individual performer level within genres, and artists/styles/genres I’ll stick to the bottom of the pile, and not take with me to the legendary “Desert Island Disks” recording. I appreciate the creative nature of musicians of all flavours. I envy their talent even.

For the last 50 years I have had constant debates with a good friend of mine, an avid music fan, on the subject of “What aspect attracts you to a recording – the music or the lyrics ? ”. My side is the music, his is the “poetry/lyrics” angle. Neither of us can win. We possess differently tuned “dominant” filters ! Since the advent of video presentation, a third parameter comes into play – the one you’ve brought up above. “Think Visual” by The Kinks comes to mind. To be honest – it’d be third on my list, but it definitely can make a difference commercially ?

No doubt the video you posted shows a brilliantly talent artist (s), with a political/philosophical message to send. My simple point is that he is not “singing”, he is “orating”. In my opinion the latter does not harmonize with music. It’s just a matter of taste obviously.

Your point about Young (Springfield vs Crazy Horse editions) and Dylan (Folk vs Electric editions) is well taken. The difference between those two singers (an element of tonality/blandness in their “musical” voices) is somewhat masked/covered up by the music behind their voices. I can’t see that very often in rap music where the “spoken” voice is mainly the dominant factor.

Thanks for trying. I’ll keep giving it a chance from now on .

The words/lyrics are bloody important mind :emoticon-0148-yes:

No problem at all and my apologies - hate was far too strong a word, especially at a time when we all need a bit more sympathy and understanding.

And I take your point re orating, though Subterranean Homesick Blues for instance is not far off a stream of consciousness oration either. Though that doesn’t mean I think you have to dislike it, or like any of the songs I posted - if musical taste was logical the world would be a much duller place.

No apology necessary. As you say, variety & difference in taste adds the spice to life. :emoticon-0148-yes:

Just to clarify part #2, not about bands / genres you don't like, more about a band artist you wouldn't normally like e.g. For me All Saints, but I actually like Pure Shores, also bands that you just don't get why others make the fuss, for me The Killers are background music, don't dislike, but don't get, however when I used to do spin class it was one I got to like overtime... So. Maybe something from the hit parade you inadvertently whistle the tune to...

Do you like Bluegrass TC? How about Gangstagrass.

A mate introduced me to Ganstagrass and I quite like it to be fair. Although I do acknowledge my terrible taste in music....
