It isn’t though, as if it’s a percentage of a salary it’s not a universal amount.

For those talking about how it affects the young.
    https://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/pediatrics/early/2020/03/16/peds.2020-0702.full.pdf

Young children were more at risk of serious illness than older children were. The proportion of severe and critical cases was 10.6 % for children younger than 1 year, 7.3% for those 1 to 5, 4.2% for those 6 to 10, 4.1% for those 11 to 15, and 3.0% for those 16 to 18. "Only one child died, and most cases were mild, with much fewer severe and critical cases (5.9%) than adult patients (18.5%)," they wrote.

Seems an obvious decision to me - lots of different skills that are potentially useful if the situation gets worse. Could offer support in various fields: Science, medicine, transport, engineering, security etc...

Wouldn’t totally knock that mindset. Been thinking about my grandad a lot lately. He died in 1970, when I was only 9, but he was a big influence on me.

He fought for four years in the trenches, brought a family up during the Great Depression, lived through the Blitz.

He was a Socialist and a Trade Unionist all his life too btw.

My point is not that he would have been complacent, or acted irresponsibly - I mention him because he said to my mum as he was dying of lung cancer in the UCH, that he was grateful for every day of his life. It’s not the old timers that are buying up bogroll

When the situation gets worse more like .!!!
More warnings from Italy about our lack of testing .
One town had mass testing and isolation and have cut cases to zero .
One medical expert said without mass testing it will be as bad if not worse than Italy .
    America now !
40% of hospitalised cases are people aged between 20 and 54 !

Just spoke to my daughter in Brighton...there is **** all food in most supermarkets and most of the smsllers shops have been cleaned out. There are no delivery slots for home delivery at any of the supermarkets.
She is working in her job and trying to do her dissertation for her final year while all her lectures have been stopped. She is worried about how she'll get by if her and her boyfriend have to self quarantine as the will have to get by on statutory sick pay instead of their wages.
Poor sod is now at breaking point...not being able to buy any food has done her head in...was in floods of tears.
So off to Brighton with a food parcel on Saturday me thinks.
And she's a healthy youngster ... with family support... **** knows how stressed elderly and ill people must be!

To be fair the government and the advisors keep going on about how they are scaling up testing and say they think they’ve now got a test which can tell if you’ve had the virus, not just if you currently have it, which could make a huge difference if we can churn those out fast enough.

I don’t think it’s that they are ignoring the need for testing I just think it’s taking time to get it up to the required level.
