    The problem is that Europeans and Americans have a different response to authority compared to South Korean

    If you got an elderly neighbour, can just shout through the door and offer help.

    Utilities companies should be offering a 3 month payment open delay period as part of their community responsibility, that the government should enforce on them.

    The government/tax payer will probably end up bailing out the share listed companies as per... If that prick Branson gets a penny, then every Brit should refuse to pay tax, but it will be the self employed and small businesses that bear the brunt.

    No reason for us all not to simply help the old and vulnerable though.
    Elderly people either side of us. One has son nearby so not an issue, although we keep an eye on her anyway
    Other side we’ll pop and get them stuff if needed
    Daughter is in London and dropped her elderly neighbour a note offering to pick her anything she needed up.
    My Mum is only a couple of miles away, so easy for me to see her, but her neighbours popped round today and offered to get her anything while they were shopping (she took them up in the offer for essentials ..,as she’d run out of Merlot!)

    look after yourself, but others too

    I partly agree, but if the option was there I think many would use it
    I would

    I felt alright until I read the last few posts.

    Now I'm ****ting myself in case the neighbours ask me if I need any shopping getting.

    Exactly right Den... whilst looking after ourselves, ensure those that are less able are looked after too...

    I'm sure many would use it, just not certain how many would or will follow the recommendations.

    Anyway, this reason for social distancing and isolation is a good excuse for those of us who don't don't always enjoy company outside of direct family. Every cloud etc. I've already swerved a wedding, a baptism, an Easter meal and potentially accompanying my son to the Gothia Cup off the back of it.

    Supermarkets are starting to limit the things you can buy.

    ASDA: 2 hand sanitisers and a 4 pack of toilet rolls.
    TESCO: 1 hand sanitiser, 500g of rice and 4 pack of toilet rolls.
    WAITROSE: 1 lobster, 6 quails eggs and 100g of Foie Gras.

    Forgive the gallows humour but I can't help noticing the cultural stereotypes:

    The Italians have been singing opera from their balconies;

    The Dutch have closed the cannabis cafes;

    The Irish have closed the pubs (!);

    And the British ...

    have stockpiled toilet rolls.

    Yes, I know it's serious.

    Some people are wrapping toilet roll around their heads in the belief that it will prevent them catching the virus...
    So if you see some twat walking along a Hull street mummified in Andrex or Cusheen quilted you know their game.

    I think in a few months we’ll either be living in a weird futuristic society under total lockdown. Or we’ll have gone stir-crazy, thought “****-it” and be living a vaguely normal life at six feet from anyone else.
