The only difference being, of course, is that smokers and drinkers have a choice, they (I, with alcohol) know the risks.
It'll be interesting to see how, if at all, the government put into place any plan for a future outbreak. And there will be one. There will surely be a more deadly virus in the wild at some point.
It just makes you realise what a cosseted, pampered lifestyle we enjoy. How many of us have suffered real hardship - health issues apart

If ever there was a time for the EU to demonstrate the power of international co-operation, you would think it would be now. You cannot have countries acting unilaterally and without consultation, Guy Verhofstadt said grandly last week when Donald Trump announces his travel ban on flights from the Schengen Area (now extended to the UK). How much better if the US president followed the example of the EU and its carefully thought out, co-ordinated, cross-border strategy for tackling coronavirus.
But just where is that strategy? Where is the spirit of EU unity which always seems so strong when Michel Barnier is dreaming up his latest plan to frustrate an EU-UK trade deal? It seems to have gone down with something nasty.
Last week, Italy appealed to its neighbours for vital medical supplies, from face masks to ventilators. It did eventually get them, but not from fellow EU countries – they arrived on a plane from Shanghai.
Initially, Germany even banned the export of face masks, on the grounds that it might need them itself – although it did later relent....
